He winks, smiles, and walks over to me, placing a cup of coffee in front of me. Then comes his signature move. He hooks his finger under my chin and lifts my face to meet his. He bends down as I close my eyes, waiting for another amazing kiss.

And then he does it: he kisses meon my fucking headand walks off in the direction of his bedroom. I sit there for a few seconds, staring at the latte on the counter.

What the hell is going on? What happened last night? Did me falling asleep after the best orgasm of my life piss him off? Doesn’t he realise I’d just gotten out of the hospital and three glasses of wine later, I was wiped? Well, not wiped enough to not start playing with B.O.B, but still… that’s no reason to be distant this morning. Especially after where he had his face.

Two can play at that game, West. I get up from the counter and make my way back to my room. After a shower, with my hair done properly, light makeup applied, and a sophisticated outfit put on, I make my way back to the lounge.

“So, what’s on the menu for today?” I ask with a hint of flirting added to the mix.

Chapter 18

West

Whatthehellisshe doing to me? Coming out here in her pyjamas and nearly falling flat on her arse. When I was grabbing her this morning and putting her in the chair, it made me realise how delicate she still is. Last night shouldn’t have happened. I’m not saying ever but it was not the right time. Having her here is harder than I thought. I walked away this morning when all I wanted to do was take those lips and drag her back to bed.

She’s not ready. She’s not ready for me. Not when I get in that zone. I don’t want to break her, and, right now, I know that’s exactly what me going all the way with her will do. She’ll just have to live with what I can give her for now.

“So, what’s on the menu for today?”

Did she really just ask that question? I look up, and she’s covered up the remains of the bruising, and the girl from the station is standing right in front of me. Plus, crutches.

Keep seeing the crutches, West. You need to remember she is not fully recovered yet.

She looks amazing, confident, and beautiful. I can’t speak. I start to say something, but I just growl. I’m not going to be able to do this. I’m going to call Kara and ask her to take this temptress away for her own good.

Get real, West. No, you’re not. I’m still staring at her just like I did at the station.

The doorbell rings, and we both look at each other. I shrug my shoulders. I’m not expecting anyone, and she certainly isn’t. Her only other person has already said she is busy today. It rings again.

Fucking impatient people. Who is it anyway? The front desk hasn’t said anyone is on their way up.

I pull the door open with more force than is necessary, but now I’m pissed off. Alicia is standing on the outside looking at me with her hands stretched out.

“West, my gorgeous man. Why am I still waiting for a car to take us to the office?” She walks in and wraps her skinny arm around my neck.

What the hell? She has never done this before.

“Alicia, good morning. This is my house guest, Sutton Smith. She will also be joining us at the office in a few weeks when she has recovered from her accident.” I unwrap her arms as fast as I can.

Alicia looks over at Sutton. Her eyes go wide and then into small slits as she looks Sutton up and down and over and around.

What is she doing, and why is she here? She never comes here. I texted her yesterday to say I wouldn’t be in the office until Monday and that I had personal matters to attend to.

“Why are you here, Alicia?” I ask firmly.

“Well, it’s a bit delicate, can we talk in private? You know like your bedroom or something?”

What is this bitch playing at? This is not Alicia’s style, all smarmy and flirty.

Sutton grabs her crutches and walks off towards her room. “It’s fine, you can have the living room; I’ll be in the bedroom, West.” She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. It’s fire that’s in her eyes, and it’s me that’s going to be shot down in flames when Alicia has finally left.

Sutton has gone, so I turn to Alicia, “What’s this about? What’s so delicate you couldn’t just phone me?”

“Well, West, a little bird has told me that you are playing vet. You’ve taken in an injured lamb that was attacked by a wolf and now has a broken leg.”

I hope Sutton can’t hear her calling her the victim.

“Alicia, I don’t know what you’ve heard, and from who, but you’re on the wrong path altogether. I’m helping out a future employee who has fallen into a very difficult situation, and I would appreciate your discretion, especially as Sutton will be joining us in the office very shortly.”
