I make my way into the room next to the board room. ‘The observation Room’. Sandra brings in my coffee and I settle down with my notebook ready to take some notes for comparison.

I see the boardroom door open, and a young woman walks in and sits down facing me. What the living fuck. It’s her. She’s sat right in front of me. She must be the first interview. No, no, this can’t be happening. I was hoping I’d be able to catch her on the train in the morning after ditching Alicia and ask her on a date. I still can if I make sure she doesn’t get picked for this job. There would be no conflict of interest then. That’s it. I just have to say that we can’t hire her.

I sit through the first 5 minutes of her presentation. Of course, it’s fucking amazing. Everything the business needs, everything I need, she’s everything I want. No, no, no, Miss Smith you need to fuck this up. As the interview progresses, I find myself on the opposite side of the fence. I want her to succeed. I want her to work here. She is the best we have seen in a long time and today is the last of the interviews. I must find someone today. I am also having visions of working late and bending her over my desk and spanking that perky little ass till it’s as pink as her cherry lips. That does it. I can feel my hard-on getting more and more painful. I’m going to have to miss the end of this interview and go and sort this out if it goes on any longer.

Oh, hang on what did I miss, why am I so distracted by this woman, the interview is coming to a close.

Thank fuck.

I need to keep hidden in here until she is well and truly gone. She leaves the boardroom and walks back down the corridor to the elevator. She turns and looks back up towards the boardroom as if she can sense me watching her. I feel like a stalker, but I just can’t help myself.

The door to the observation room opens and in walk Alex Gregson and June Avalon from Human Resources, both smiling like Cheshire cats.

“I think we’ve found the one,” June says excitedly.

Alex and June have interviewed over twenty people for this job and have not found anyone who even comes close to Miss Smith.

“What do you think, Alex?” I ask.

“The best of the best. No one has even come close. I can’t

believe she hasn’t been snapped up by some of the big players. If we can get

her onboard, it will make all the difference.”

“Do you see any reason she won’t join us?” I question.

“Only the commute. It could be problematic as she has to use several modes of transport to get here,” June explains.

“Okay, so if she is the best from today’s bunch, we add in a company car or car service if she doesn’t drive. We can’t have the Head of Operations travelling in economy on the train.”

Alex and June look at each other, puzzled.

“Okay, is that a new package offered for all of the candidates today?” Alex asks with a smirk on his face. Smug bastard knows I like her already.

“Yep, definitely, if the commute is a problem.” I smile back at Alex. Take that, you slimy toad. Alex likes to flirt and thinks he’s a hit with the ladies. Even though he’s in HR, he sails close to the wind and has had a couple of write-ups on file for his persistence.

I sit through the next three interviews just to make sure I’m being objective. I’m bored out of my head. Their presentations are dull, their competency answers are vague, and nothing excites me about any of them. I feel like I’ve wasted a full day watching paint dry, but it had to be done. I didn’t want anyone saying I hired her because she is smoking hot.

Alex and June meet me in my office at the end of the day.

“So, do we have a new Head of Operations?” I ask. I already know the answer, but I’m trying to look impartial.

“I think we do; would you like me to call Miss Smith, or would you like the honour? You know… introduce yourself?” The smirk on Alex’s face needs to fucking be removed, the smart fucker.

“No, it’s okay. June, can you call her and make the offer? Don’t forget about the car package if it’ll sweeten the deal. Is that okay?”

June smiles and nods, and Alexhumphsand walks out the door.

“I think we’ve made a good choice today, West. I think she will change things up here for the good, and she’ll be a great support for you, too. I’m looking forward to giving her the news.” June walks out the door and looks back at me with a strange smile on her face. Does she fucking know too?

Chapter 5

Sutton

It’sbeenalong-assday. The morning started off the worst of all days, but as the day went on, it got better and better. I met Mr. Hot Coffee at the train station. Such a shame that he’s attached to Miss Chocolate Hair. The train and the bus back home were empty, so the commute was okay.

That’s the only thing that’s making me question whether it’s a good idea to take the job. It will take me an hour every day to get there and nearly two hours coming back due to the train and bus times. Plus, today was part of the school holidays, so it was quiet. I don’t want to think what it would be like when they are all back and the smelly teenagers are leaning all over me trying to get a look down my top.Urgh.I shake the scene from my head.
