Sutton
“Hey,I’msosorryKara. How long have you been here? How long haveIbeen here?”
“A few days, but it’s okay. Don’t worry about me. We need to get you right and get you sorted out,” she replied.
My best friend. I can’t believe I’ve been out a few days.
“What happened, Kara?” I look straight at her, but she puts her head down.
“We are not allowed to tell you, Sutton. You have to try and remember on your own. If I tell you what I know then it could change your memories. I’m sorry.” She holds my hand and tears fall from her eyes.
“Can you at least tell me who the fucking hot guy is that keeps sitting in the corner? Fuck, he is something else. Is he a cop or a security guard? I have a feeling I know him, but not well.”
Kara starts to giggle and explains everything about Wednesday up to the accident, including my nickname for the hot tall guy. I start to laugh and then realise something.
“Kara, do you have your aviator glasses on you?”
“Yeah why?” She looks at me like I’m freaking out, which I am.
“Quick pass me them. He can’t see me like this, fuck. The hottest man I’ve ever seen, and I look like Frankenstein’s reject.” Kara grabs them and passes them over smiling.
“What?” I ask.
“Nothing,” she replies, but she’s still smiling. I put them on, and she is now howling, laughing at me.
“This is not fucking funny Kara.” That seems to be the most common phrase I say to her.
“No, you’re right, it’s not, but you look worse in them than without them. Plus, he’s been here since Friday teatime. He’s seen worse.”
What the fuck has he seen?My mind spins off its axis. What the fuck? He needs to stay out of here until I can at least brush my matted hair and I’ve had a shower.
“Kara?”
“Yes?”
“Don’t let him back in today. I don’t want to be seen like this by anyone other than you. And especially not Mr. Hot Coffee. If he’s going to be my new boss when I recover, there will need to be boundaries.”
“Okay, you’re the patient, but I think you’re wrong about this.”
“Why?”
“Because he fucking likes you, he’s been here since he found out something was wrong. He’s the first guy you have even had a conversation with in years. The first guy who, in your words, ‘nearly made you come by just talking to him,’ and he is the king of fucking hotness, you daft bitch. Don’t throw this away.”
“Did I really say that?”
“That’s all you took from that, Sutton? Yes, you did really say that, and other things, too. He lit a spark somewhere in you that’s been dead and buried and you described in graphic detail what you would do to his cock if you were given half the chance.”
I can feel my face flushing, although you couldn’t see it under all the bruising. I get that feeling again like someone is watching me, and then he appears in the doorway. Shit, I hope he didn’t hear that conversation. Please say he just got back this second from the coffee machine.
“I’m tired. I think I need to rest. You two should go home.”
Please make Mr. Hot Coffee leave. Fuck, what if he heard what Kara said? Yep, I’m going to faint.
“Sutton, I’m West. Do you remember me?” That voice, I remember that voice.
“Erm, not really, but Kara has been filling me in on how I met you. I remember your voice though.”
Filter, Sutton, filter. Where is your filter? Why did you say that? And what the fuck is his voice doing to my lady parts? I’ve just woken up from a coma, and I feel like I want to climb him like a tree.
