“Yes. Would you and Darlene like to come along?” Logan surprises me more than anyone and I can see that both Darlene and Ken are astonished, but not so much so that they don’t both immediately agree.

Reluctant doesn’t come close to covering how I feel about our dinner out because I can’t believe Logan actually wants to eat dinner with Dr. Ken, especially not after the way he looked at me before. I’m not sure whether I’m more wary or disappointed.

“Okay then. Let’s go,” I say. This could be a cluster on top of a circus if the attention at the rink is any indication. Not to mention the palpable pissing contest between Ken and him. Maybe Logan doesn’t belong in my life if this kerfuffle at a small event like Nicky’s hockey game is any clue. I don’t know if I can or even want to compete for his attention at every turn.

But whether I want him to or not, after I hug Nicky good-bye and he gives her a high-five, he claims my arm, looping his through mine and leads me outside to his car.

“Where are we going?” Darlene scurries after us.

“Let’s meet at Hawthorne’s by the Sea.”

Under my breath, I say, “That’s a little pricey, isn’t it?” He opens my door.

“No worries. I’m buying.”

“For everyone?”

He grins. “Of course. You don’t think Dr. Ken will mind, do you?”

“You are a devil.” But I hide my smile as I slide under the crazy door of his Tesla X Performance.
