“What’s that?”
“Public humiliation.”
“I believe you’re right. But how the heck do we make that happen?”
“I have some ideas. I’ll need to do a little homework. You wouldn’t happen to know of any local male escort services would you?”
When we arrive at the hospital, their community service director meets us and takes us to a room reserved for group visits. I’m stunned at the number of young people there, suffering from all manner of ailments. The one thing they all have in common is big smiles on their faces. We hand out the gifts and let the stick boy’s cousin know Finn has a special gift for hm.
A half hour later, Finn shows up with several teammates including Aiden, O’Rourke, and Brady Mack. Caroline keeps out of her son’s way, keeping busy with some of the children playing knock hockey and Finn sees her, but doesn’t seek her out or say hello.
It breaks my heart and I’m not sure who I hurt more for, Finn or his mother.
Oh heck, of course I feel more for Finn. Because I’m falling for him. I mean seriously falling. He spends most of his time with Tim the stick boy’s cousin and the kid doesn’t stop grinning. Finn presents him with a full-sized goalie stick autographed by the entire team and my eyes water up when Tim hugs him—and he hugs Tim back, tight and hard.
