Chapter 13
Vivvie
After our epic night in bed, making love and sleeping in Finn’s arms, cocooned in his protective warmth, there isn’t anything in the world that could spoil my day. Not even the rushed morning after Finn vanishes before I’ve barely had a chance to open my eyes. Especially since he’s invited me to come to the morning skate and after that we’re going for our visit to the Children’s Hospital. A day with Finn after a night of lovemaking and I find myself having one of those pinch-me moments as I sip my coffee.
I’m giddy and I’m head over heels. And I know I should be scared, know I should be protecting my heart because it’s all temporary, but there’s nothing that can convince my heart of that now, not today when I feel like the bliss will last forever, that something that feels this good has to go on and on.
As I finish changing the sheets and making the bed, ready to leave Finn’s condo, my cell rings and I jump for it. Ashamed that I’m disappointed to see it’s only my best friend in the world, Grace, and not Finn, I answer.
“Good morning, Grace. Isn’t it a beautiful day?”
“Oh shit. Don’t tell me—you didn’t? You did, didn’t you—you slept with Finn?” Her voice rises with each word until she’s shrieking in my ear and I’m laughing.
“I can’t believe you did it. How was he? How big? How many—”
With a horrified blush, I say, “Stop it Grace. I’m not answering those questions.”
“You have to tell me something—how about a rating from one to ten as a lover. Where does he fall?”
“Off the flipping charts,” I say, grinning like a kid just visited by the tooth fairy—if the tooth fairy also brought her leprechaun friend and they left me a pot of gold and the rainbow. I’m never going to stop smiling again for the rest of my life.
All I have to do is rewind the image of Finn as he climaxes inside me while I’m shuddering through the most unimaginably world-shattering orgasm—or rather orgasms. I don’t even know how many there were. One led into the next like a series of aftershocks.
“Oh please give me some details. How many inches?”
“You’re crazy. I didn’t exactly take out a ruler.”
“Guess.”
“No.” I blush thinking about his size, a rush of heat sizzling my blood, sending another rush to the point between my legs that’s well-used and pleasantly sore this morning.
“But I will tell you this, Grace, I now understand where the termyou rock my worldcomes from.”
She squeals again and we both laugh, but then she gets serious and I know I’m in for a well-meaning lecture.
“Enjoy yourself while you can, Viv, but remember, it’ll all be over inside of eight weeks, so do not get attached.”
I reassure her. The last thing I’m going to tell her is that it’s too late, that I’m attached, and that I think Finn may be attached too. He invited me to the morning skate, didn’t he?
“In the meantime, call your parents because I think they’re a little worried with everything happening so fast, and especially after seeing the kind of people that travel in Finn’s social circle last night. Bizzarro.”
“I’ll call. I have to go. Finn invited me to watch the morning skate today and then we’re going for a visit to the kids at Children’s Hospital.”
“Wow. You’re spending quality time together,” she says. “Just don’t let it go to your head. Promise me.”
“I promise.” I give an exasperated laugh and we say goodbye and end the call.

I’ve never beento a Brawlers skate-around. The familiar sound of blades slashing the ice exhilarates me. Being here makes me feel special, almost as much as last night did. But heck, who am I kidding? Nothing is as momentous as last night. Last night was . . . an untouchable experience. Nothing in my ridiculously sheltered life prepared me for it, for how I’d feel about Finn. For how life changing it would be to make love to the man I love with all my heart and soul. And I don’t care if it’s the romantic in me talking, because I know a few truths about the human heart and the gift of love—even if it has been based on observing as a spectator. Until now.
Admitting to myself that what I have is more than a romantic crush sends chills through me. The prospect of admitting it to Finn absolutely terrifies me. But I can’t be dishonest with him now, can’t turn into an emotional coward when it counts the most. I have to do it. I’ll find the right moment. Soon.
Watching him skate around, including the speed drills, I realize he’s fast. He’s also slow and patient when he wants to be.Just thinking about him inside me last night melts me, makes me throb between my thighs and makes me feel so naughty, like I should go to confession.
Turning around, I see Finn’s mother is here. As she approaches me standing at the boards, she puts her arms out for a hug in greeting.
“Thank you for helping out last night driving my parents back to the garage, and for all your support with Sherry,” I say. “You’re a good mother.” I mean it. She’s been behind Finn a hundred percent all the way.
