He smoothed out his features and smiled at her. “Nothing to worry about, I assure you.”

She covered a yawn and then stretched under the blankets before peeking her head out of the top.

“Hmm, somehow, I don’t believe you,” she said, shuffling over and patting the bed beside her. “Tell me, what’s on your mind?”

Arun laughed as he climbed on to the bed. “Nothing gets past you, does it?”

As soon as he was seated, Selene scooted closer so she could rest her head on his lap.

“Nope,” she said, peering up at him. “Now, spill.”

“I was just thinking about my family,” he admitted.

“They’re going to come after us, aren’t they?”

“I’m afraid so,” he said.

Selene was silent for a moment before she asked; “How long do you think we have?”

“I honestly don’t know.” And that’s what worried him.

They could arrive at any minute. But knowing them, they would wait until Arun’s attention was divided before attacking him. Which meant, they were likely to attack when he and the others are preoccupied with the spell.

Selene placed her hand on his lap. “Everything will be okay.”

How he wished he could believe her, but he knew his family. They were brutal and ruthless. They would stop at nothing to mete out justice for what he’d done to his brother. It didn’t matter if Agnarr deserved it or not. In their eyes, he was a traitor to the family.

“Taredd and Dain were here with Natalia and Amberly a short while ago,” he said, trying to change the subject.

She wrinkled her nose in the cutest way as she gazed up at him.

“I know, I was listening,” she confessed. When he looked at her questioningly, she added; “I wasn’t ready to speak with them, so I pretended to still be asleep.”

“I’m sure they will understand,” he assured her. “I’ve told them it will be a couple of days before you’re ready to leave.”

“We can leave sooner,” she said, sitting up on the bed. “I’m feeling a lot better now.”

Arun was reluctant to agree. He wanted to spend as much time with her as possible before everything changed. Especially knowing it was likely to be the last time they would be alone together.

“We’ll see how you’re feeling in the morning,” he told her instead. “For tonight, just rest and recuperate.”

“I’ve rested enough,” she said with a wicked grin. “I want to do something else for a while.”

“What do you have in mind?”

Instead of answering, she threw the blankets back and straddled his waist. Then she whipped off her nightshirt and dropped in on the floor.

He growled as he ripped off his own shirt and dropping it on the floor with her nightshirt.

“I like your way of thinking,” he said before pulling her into his arms and claiming her lips with his own.

He groaned when he felt her melt against him. Tomorrow would come soon enough. Tonight was all about the female in his arms. The one that made his body burn with desire and his heart burst with love. Tonight was all about Selene.
