“Fine,” Arun said. “But only because she’s a halfling, like Selene.”
“Natalia and I will be coming, as well.” Taredd shrugged when Dain looked at him. “What? I had to promise her, as well.”
Dain laughed. “Glad I’m not the only one with a stubborn mate.”
“No. Natalia is Human,” Arun reminded Taredd. “You need to take her somewhere safe.”
“You don’t have to remind me what she is,” Taredd said. “But there’s no way she will stay out of it. If you want to try arguing with her, then be my guest.”
Arun sighed heavily. There was no point arguing with any of them because they would just follow him, anyway. At least if they were with him, he could keep an eye on them to make sure nothing happened to them.
“Fine,” he relented.
Taredd slapped him on the back. “Good. Now, what are we going to do about these females?”
The only place that came to mind was Selene’s home. The underground bunker was large enough to accommodate all the females from his brother’s harem, and more. Between his and Selene’s magic, they should be able to secure the bunker so that nobody except them could enter, so they would all be safe there, as well.
“I have the perfect place for them,” he grinned. “Tell the females we’re leaving and to grab anything they need. We will meet up with Natalia and Amberly on the way.”
“I’m on it,” Dain said as he headed back inside.
“What about Selene?” Taredd asked.
“What about her?”
“Is she going to be okay?”
“I don’t know,” Arun said. “We’ll have to wait until she wakes up.”If she wakes up,he silently added.
He honestly didn’t know if she would be okay. He didn’t even know if she would wake up. She had taken a massive hit to the head and cracked her skull. That, along with all the other injuries she had sustained, would have killed her if she had been fully Human. Her mixed blood had undoubtedly saved her life. Arun had done his best to heal her, now it was all down to her.
“I know you may not want to hear this,” Taredd said. “But we might have to leave her behind with the females.”
“I’m not leaving her behind,” Arun said. “If it wasn’t for her, we wouldn’t even know about the spell.”
“I know that,” Taredd said calmly. “But you’ve got to think about what is going to be best. Do you know how long it will be until she wakes up? Do you know how much time we have until your family starts coming after us? Do you know if this spell needs to be done at a certain time? Does it need to be performed by someone in particular?”
“I don’t know,” Arun said, feeling frustrated.
“I know you don’t,” Taredd said. “But these are just some questions we need answers to, and we’re not going to find them by sitting around waiting for her to wake up. The least we can do is try to locate the spell while she sleeps. We could have it before she even wakes up.”
Arun wasn’t ready to leave Selene. He wasn’t sure he’d ever be ready, but he understood what Taredd was saying.
“Two days,” Arun relented. “If she hasn’t woken in two days’ time, we’ll leave her with the other females.”
He would warn them not to harm her in any way. He would also make sure that they knew they were staying in her home, so not to disrespect her or make her feel uncomfortable in any way, either. The last thing he wanted was for her to feel uncomfortable in her own home. If he returned to find out that that had happened while he was looking for the spell, he would make them suffer.
“Okay,” Taredd said. “We’ll wait two days.”
