Chapter 19

Selene didn’t know what she had expected to happen when she told Arun about the spell. Maybe for him to try to kill her, or at least, try to stop her. But he didn’t do either. Instead, he wanted to help her.

The male was continuously surprising her. He knew what she was trying to do, yet he still wanted to help. He’d saved her life, not once, but twice. He’d tended to her wounds and made sure she had plenty to eat and drink along the way. He’d done all of that when he could have just killed her and been on his way.

What kind of Fae did that? None that she had ever come across. Most tried to kill her on the spot. Some tried to capture her to use as a slave or sell on as one. But none had ever offered to help her. None would, especially if they knew it would bring about the end to their reign of terror in the Human realm.

There is one that wants to help.

Yes, but for how long? Was he helping because he honestly wanted it all to come to an end like her? Or was it all a lie? Was he secretly trying to stop her?

Selene kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. She hoped he was on her side, but she was prepared for if it turned out that he wasn’t.

They left the cabin shortly after she told him about the spell. Selene didn’t have a clue where they were going. She assumed he was taking her to find his friends, but for all she knew, he could be leading her straight to her death. Or worse, to a Human meat market to be sold as a slave.

He can try to sell me!

She would rather die than be sold as a slave again.

“Why don’t you live with other Humans?” Arun asked out of the blue.

“Why don’t you live with other Fae?” she countered.

“What makes you think I don’t?”

Selene shrugged. “I just got the impression that you don’t.”

“Well, I do,” he said. “At least, when I’m not travelling with Taredd and Dain, that is.”

“Do you travel with them often?”

Arun nodded. “All the time. In fact, it’s rare that we’re not together.”

“Don’t you ever get sick of each other and fight?”

“All the time,” he laughed.

The deep, masculine sound sent butterflies off in her stomach as other body parts clenched with need. How it turned her on, she didn’t know, but that’s exactly what it did.

Selene was glad he didn’t laugh often, otherwise she was likely to rip his clothes off and mount him like a wild beast.

God, I really need my head seen too.

She needed to get her mind out of the gutter, that’s what she needed to do. But it was difficult with him around. Even his long white hair and pointy ears weren’t enough to put her off. If anything, they just made him even more appealing.

“Which one do you fight with most?” she asked, intrigued to know the answer.

“That would be Dain. He loves to get on your nerves.”

“Does… Taredd, is it?” she asked, unsure she’d pronounce his name correctly.

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Does he fight with Dain a lot, as well?”

“Oh, yes,” he nodded enthusiastically. “They fight more than Dain and I. Now, I’ve answered your questions, it’s your turn.

“Okay, what would you like to know?” Selene asked.
