“Seems to be what?” she prompted.

Arun closed his eyes and shook his head. “It seems to be a mixture of spells.”

“What do you mean by ‘mixture’?”

“Well, you see this part?” he said, pointing at a line on the page.

“What about it?” she asked.

“Well, it shouldn’t be there.”

Selene frowned. “Why?”

Arun grimaced before replying. “Because it’s actually part of a summoning spell.”

“Fuck!” she shouted. “So, all this time, I’ve been summoning people to me?”

Arun nodded. “Afraid so.”

“Great! Just great!” Selene growled and began pacing again.

“Unfortunately, that’s not all,” Arun said, stopping her in her tracks. “You see this bit?” He pointed at the next line. When she nodded, he continued. “That part is a locating spell, but not the kind you think.”

Selene was starting to feel really stupid. As much as she didn’t want to hear any more bad news, she needed to know.

She closed her eyes and sighed. “Just tell me.”

“It’s to find a mate.”

Her eyes snapped open on the last word. “You’re kidding me?”

“No,” he shook his head. “You’ve been searching for a mate.”

“Fan-fucking-tastic.” She threw her hands up. “Not only am I calling all the bad guys to me, but I’m also searching for a fucking mate.”

No wonder the bloody thing hadn’t worked. Well, it had, in a way. Just not the way she intended.

Unable to stand still any longer, she began pacing again. Arun was silent as he watched her pace from one side of the room to the other.

After walking back and forth several times, she stopped and turned to him. “Anything else I should know?”

Arun shook his head. She huffed and then continued pacing.

What the hell was she supposed to do now? Her one hope of finding the spell had been a complete and utter waste of time. If anything, it had done more harm than good.
