She frowned. “Because of me?”
“Yes, because of you,” he repeated. “It was your voice in my head. I can’t pinpoint what it was, but there was something about it that drew me to you.”
“Could it have something to do with the words?” she asked.
“It’s possible,” he said. “But I didn’t hear everything you were saying. Just snippets and a bit at the end.”
“Oh.”
Selene sounded disappointed. Was she hoping he’d heard more? Or was she disappointed that he’d heard her in the first place?
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” She shook her head. “I just thought you heard it all.”
“No, sorry, just snippets.”
“If you didn’t hear everything I was saying, how do you know I’m in danger?” she asked. “And what makes you think it has anything to do with the spell?”
“I can’t explain it,” he admitted. “But when I heard you performing the spell, I got a feeling of impending danger.”
“But you don’t know for certain?” she asked.
Arun shook his head. “No.”
“So, is it possible the danger you felt had nothing to do with the spell at all?”
“It’s possible,” he agreed. “But highly unlikely. If it had nothing to do with the spell, then why did I get the feeling when I heard you performing it?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “Coincidence, maybe? Either way, I’m not going to stop.”
Arun couldn’t understand what could be so important it was worth risking her life for. He wanted to ask her, but he knew she wouldn’t tell him. At least, not until they reached the cabin.
The sooner we get there, the better.
