This time, instead of insisting that he take the lead, Selene sauntered past him and led the way. Given the view of her sexy arse swaying from side to side as she walked in front of him, Arun was more than happy to follow her.

You need to keep your eyes open and on the lookout for trouble, not glued to her arse. But what a fine arse she has.

He wanted to see it bent over in front of him again, but next time, with nothing covering it.

“You said you heard me in your mind,” she said, breaking into his thoughts. “Do you hear other people, as well?”

Arun shook his head to clear the indecent images that had suddenly invaded his mind at the thought of her bent over in front of him. “No, I don’t hear other people.”

“Have you ever?”

“No, just you.”

“So, why me?” she asked.

Arun wished he knew the answer to that question. “I’m not sure.”

“Does it happen often?” she asked. “Like, do you hear me all the time? Or does it come and go?”

“Don’t worry, I don’t hear you all the time,” he assured her. “It only seems to happen when you’re performing the locating spell.”

“Ah, I see.”

“What are you looking for?”

“I’ve told you already, you have to wait until we’re somewhere safe.”

Arun knew it was a long shot, but he had to try. If he was going to be able to protect her, then he needed to know who would be hunting for her.

“I don’t know how safe it’ll be at the cabin,” he confessed. “We won’t be out in the open, but anyone could stumble across the cabin and listen from outside.”

“Don’t worry about that,” she told him. “I’ll make sure nobody can hear us.”

Arun raised an eyebrow in question, but Selene only shrugged in answer.

“Why aren’t your friends with you?” she asked.

Arun let her change the subject. He would find out soon enough what she meant. So, for the time being, he let her keep her secrets.

“Do they know you’re helping me?”

They didn’t know he was helping her. They didn’t even know about her. As far as they were concerned, he was off trying to win the bet, but he couldn’t tell Selene that. He didn’t think she would understand, if she even gave him the chance to explain.

Selene already didn’t trust him. So, he needed to keep the bet a secret from her.

“My friends are off doing their own thing,” he hedged.

“And what ‘thing’ would that be,” she asked. “Is it something to do with hunting and killing Humans?”

“I don’t know what they’re doing.” Which was the truth, partly. “The last time I saw them, they were getting drunk at a tavern.”

“Why didn’t you join them?”

“Who said I didn’t?” he asked her.

“Fine,” she said, rolling her eyes. “Why didn’t you stay with them?”

“If you must know, it was because of you,” he admitted.
