Chapter 25

Selene didn’t need to open her eyes to know exactly where she was. Agnarr had taken her back to his home in the Human realm.

The large white mansion had once belonged to some diplomat or another. He had told her about them the first time she had been there. She hadn’t cared then, and she didn’t care now. She couldn’t deny it was a gorgeous building, despite all the atrocities that happen there, but it was a bit too fancy for her taste.

She much preferred her underground bunker. At least she wasn’t constantly being watched there. Whereas, at the mansion, she was under surveillance 24/7.

It was a miracle she had escaped last time. If it hadn’t been for the sleeping potion, she’d slipped into one of the night guards drinks, she wouldn’t have been able to escape. So, instead of watching the monitors, he’d been fast asleep.

Even then, it had been a close call. There were a couple of close shaves as she had made her way out of the building. She hadn’t needed to worry about the cameras, but there had still been plenty of other guards wandering the grounds.

Selene doubted she would get another chance like that. Agnarr had always insisted that at least one guard accompany whenever she wasn’t locked in her cage. After her escape last time, he would probably insist on having double the amount of guards watching her at all times, not just for when she was out of her cage.

God, it sucks to be immortal.

Selene wasn’t convinced she was immortal, but it was still going to suck long ways since she didn’t age like Humans. She could live for another hundred years, or she could live for a thousand. If she knew who or what her father was, she might have some idea. Without knowing that, she didn’t have a clue how long she would live.

If she had to stay with Agnarr for the rest of her life, then she hoped and prayed that she didn’t reach her hundredth birthday. But knowing her luck, she would live for thousands of years.

Selene opened her eyes to inspect her new prison. As she looked around at all the cages in the room, she realised she was right back where she’d started. He’d even put her in exactly the same cage as before.

“Fucking wonderful,” she said. “I’m back in the fucking harem.”

Each of the other cages in the room held a single, female occupant. They all appeared to be around the same age as Selene, but she knew they weren’t. At most, they were in their early twenties. He liked them that age. As soon as a female started showing signs of ageing, he would replace her with a younger model.

She didn’t recognize any of the females in the room, but then, she had been gone for a long time, so it didn’t surprise her that they were all different females from before. She would have been more surprised if she’d seen any familiar faces among the bunch.

They stared at her with confusion and suspicion written all over their faces. Some appeared more wary of her than others, but they all had fear in their eyes. She could well and truly understand their fear. She had first-hand experience of what it was like to be one of his harem. But he wasn’t the only one they seemed to fear.

Selene didn’t know what had happened while she’d been out cold, but she had a feeling Agnarr or one of his cronies had said something to the females about her. It wouldn’t surprise her if they had. After all, what better way to make her life even more hell? Not only were they locking her up in a cage for the rest of her life, but they were also isolating her from everyone around her.

Why did it have to be him? Why couldn’t it have been the Ogres that found her? At least with them, it would have been a quick death. All they wanted to do was eat her.

Thank God for that!

She would have died if they had attempted to use her the same way as Agnarr had. They were called ogres for a reason, and it wasn’t because they were small creatures.

She shuddered at the thought. Nope, she was glad they only wanted to eat her. If only the lunatic Fae wanted the same thing. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

The randy little fuckers liked to keep a harem of Human females at their disposal at all times. Well, most did. Arun seemed to be different. He didn’t seem the type to have a harem. She could be wrong, but she didn’t think she was, not about that, anyway.

“It’s nice to see you’re finally awake. I was beginning to think we had given you too much sedative.”

A chill raced down her spine at the sound of his voice. All the females in the room shrank back as if trying to be as small and unseen as possible. Selene couldn’t blame them, she would probably do the same if she was only Human. But she wasn’t. She had magic, and she knew how to use it now.

Last time, he had an unfair advantage. He had known back then that she possessed magic, and that she didn’t know how to harness it, and he had taken full advantage of it. This time was different. She was different. She wasn’t a scared little girl anymore. She definitely wasn’t going to roll over and do as she was told. She was a strong, independent female, and she wasn’t afraid to fight back.

“What? No witty comeback?” he tutted at her. “That’s very unlike you, Selene. I thought you would have plenty to say.”

“You’re not worth the breath,” she said.

“Ah, so she hasn’t lost her spark,” he laughed. “That’s why you’re one of my favourites.”

“What? Because I’m more than happy to call you a piece of shit to your face?” she asked. “Because if that’s what you’re into, then you don’t need to lock me up for that. I’ll happily tell you every day.”

“You know that’s not why you are here, my sweet Selene,” he said.

She detested when he called her that. The way he said it made her want to stick her fingers down her throat and hurl. Either that, or rip his balls off and shovethemdownhisthroat. Selene knew which one she would prefer to do.
