Arun laughed. “Sore loser much.”

“I’m not a sore loser.” Selene poked her finger against his rock-hard chest and instantly regretted it when the urge to run her hands over his body slammed into her. “You’re just big headed.”

A slow grin crept across his face. “That I am,” he winked. “I’ll happily show you how big, if you want.”

Selene’s heart skipped a beat as images of them tangled together in the throes of passion crossed her mind at his words. She wanted to see what he hid beneath his clothes. She wanted to remove each item of clothing to reveal what was no doubt an incredible body.

“No, thanks.” She forced a grimace. “I don’t want to see your pencil.”

Arun laughed even harder. “Trust me, sweetheart, it’s definitely not a pencil.”

“Do you even know what a pencil is?” she asked.

“Of course, I do.”

“What is it then?”

Arun frowned. “Seriously?”

“Yep.”

“Fine,” he said. “It’s a writing implement Humans used to use.”

“Was that so hard?” Selene rolled her eyes when he grinned again. “I suppose we best hit the road.”

Arun grinned at her attempt to change the subject. She needed to get the conversation back onto safer ground, at least until she could figure out why he was having such an effect on her body.

“I’ll find you something to eat along the way,” Arun said as he looked around. “But we can’t stay here. It won’t be long until more turn up.”

“Okay,” she sighed. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

Selene gazed wistfully at the spilled food one last time before turning around and walking away. There was nothing she could do to save it, so she had to leave hungry.

Arun held out his hand for her. “Trust me to lead the way. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

Weirdly, she did trust him. How and when that had happened, Selene didn’t know, but it was the truth. So, without a second thought, she placed her hand in his.

Selene sucked in a breath as tingles raced from their joined hands straight up her arm and through her body to her core. It was the most delicious and disturbing sensation she’d ever felt. She wanted to pull her hand away, while simultaneously wanting to get closer for even more contact.

Arun smiled and squeezed her hand reassuringly before gently tugging her along behind him.
