He counts.
He counts.
He counts.
And I fade away.
I awaken with a start, bolting upright as my eyes snap open. I look around me, quickly remembering that I’m in Vigo’s room. I passed out on the floor in my panic-induced hyperventilation.
My hand falls to my stomach, a protective instinct to cover him and keep him safe.
Him.
The nightmare had been so vivid. I have to catch my breath because I feel like I truly had been drowning. Tears well, glassing over my vision before a sob forces them to fall down my cheeks.
My baby.
My baby was killed in my dream and it was the most horrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. More horrifying than anything Vigo or Nikolai had ever put me through. More horrifying than anything anyone could dream up to do to me. In my dream, my own life hardly mattered to me, but...
My baby.
My baby had to be protected at all costs.
Our baby.
It was just a dream, but I could feel it in my soul. The baby is a boy, and he belongs to Ezra.
This puts all our lives in grave danger. But oddly, this doesn’t strike me with more fear. Instead, it injects me with more determination, with a fierce and powerful need to rise and become the queen that Nikolai granted me the ability to become with our marriage.
Our marriage is the only reason I’m not dead right now.
If it saves my life, Ezra’s life, our baby’s life, I will become ruthless, cold, and demanding. I will do what I have to do to save us.
