We spendthe rest of the morning with Alex getting stuff in place with the new team. Then I remember the phone call and Susan. I’m surprised she’s not been hounding Adrien the whole morning.
“I’m surprised Susan hasn’t tried pulling you away all morning.”
Alex and Adrien look at each other. I feel like there is a big piece of information I’m not privy to, and I don’t like it.
“She’s been fired,” Adrien said, sitting down on the couch in the reception area while we waited for our driver.
“I’m going to check out,” Alex says, smiling and walking over to the reception desk.
I sit down opposite Adrien and glare at him.
“Adrien, you can’t just go around firing people because they aren’t being nice to me.”
“I didn’t. She’s been a problem all week, and that was something you should have come to me about.”
I move to sit next to him and rest my head on his shoulder. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Alex flirting with the ladies at reception. His phone rings and a huge smile comes over his face. He picks up the call and all I hear him say is, “Hey Issy.”
“She wasn't a team player. I need someone I trust running this place. It’s become something special in the last couple of months.”
“Ok.” I smile and kiss his jaw.
“Will you two get a room? I hope you will not be like this the whole flight. Unless this is your way of asking me to join in.”
We all burst out laughing.
The flightback to LA is nowhere near as exciting as the last time we flew back to LA. For a start, there is no sex.
