Pleasure, sure, even though they were barely one second past a peck, but she saw something else, too. Interest. Connection. A softness that could only be labeled as romantic.

Fitz really did like her.
And…she liked him right back. Fitz Montgomery. The mayor. The competition. The one she couldn’t afford to let down her guard around. The one Hallie couldn’t possibly feel…tender toward. Or lustful. Or anything in between.
Yet they clearly did like each other. A lot.
What was she supposed to do with that? Completely freaked out, she yanked out of his embrace.
“Thanks for dinner. And the advice.”
And then, with desire still pinging like star fire through her veins, Hallie grabbed her purse and ran out the door.
