Archer leaned into me as he wiped away a tear, and I wrapped my arm around him. Others were tearing up as well, everyone having grouped into their couples or larger family units.
Cora came up to my side, and I ran my hand over her head while she leaned into me.
“Now, today is about family, and not just the family we were born into, the family we have made.” Archer’s mom looked around at the other couples and triads in the area that weren’t Montgomerys by blood, but by friendship and love.
Archer’s dad grinned. “Now, enjoy the music, the games, the food, and especially enjoy the cheese. And remember one thing, long live the Montgomerys!”
And as the crowd cheered, I wrapped my arms around Archer and kissed him softly. “Long live the Montgomerys.”
“This means you’re going to have to get the tattoo,” Archer whispered.
“There’s a tattoo?” I asked, and as everyone around us laughed, they began to show me exactly where their Montgomery iris was. I had a feeling that even though I hadn’t proposed yet, I was now a Montgomery, and that meant anything was possible, and things were just about to change forever.
And I couldn’t wait.
