Killian looked over his shoulder at me as he began walking naked towards the bathroom. It was really hard not to look at his ass just then, but this was important.
“Yes. So, let’s figure out exactly what that means. Now, go feed our dog while I shower. Because if we do that together, we’re never making it to your mother’s house.”
I laughed, not knowing I would be able to after everything that had happened, but from the light in Killian’s eyes, I knew he felt the same way.
We were finding our future, somehow. But what did that mean?
* * *
We got ready quickly and made our way to my parents’ house. Thankfully, Killian was the same size as Beckett, so instead of having to buy a whole new wardrobe right away, he was able to borrow some clothes, including the pair of gray pants and a button-up shirt he had on.
“Oh, I’m so glad that you’re here. This is exciting,” my mother said as she looked around her house, beaming. My mother and father had gone all out for this. The reunion would start a bit later, but first the Fort Collins Montgomerys were going to get ready as a family before the rest of the horde arrived.
We had opened up the back windows so the deck was fully visible, having pulled back the French doors, so everything looked open and welcoming. Today was the best weather we’d had in weeks, as if Mother Nature knew the Montgomerys needed this.
The lawn tables were set up outside underneath tents with fairy lights, and there was a gaming section and a dance floor, everything perfectly situated, so it looked more like a casual wedding rather than a family reunion.
I was just excited to see everybody, especially with how my mother smiled.
“It looks beautiful.”
“You did so much work with me. I love you, my son,” Mom said as she kissed both cheeks.
Dad came into the room then, holding a stack of boxes. “Where do you want these, babe?” Dad asked before he looked over her head and smiled at me.
“Archer, Killian, you’re here. Is Cora with you?” At that moment, Cora barked, and Dad grinned. “I’m glad we made sure all the pets were allowed to come if they were comfortable. And Cora is such a well-behaved dog. She’s like a grandkid.”
He winked as he said it, and Killian let out a low breath. “Well, that was pointed.”
“He’s getting good at it. Usually, it’s just Mom.”
“We try, honey,” Mom said. “Now, let me go help your dad with those boxes, and you go take a look around. You know what you’re doing.”
“Yes, he does,” Annabelle said as she walked in, Hailey in her arms. Jacob was behind her, Jack in his arms. And then Benjamin and Brenna were there, Rafael in Brenna’s arms. Beckett and Eliza followed, holding Lexington. And Paige and Lee came in last, with Emery sleeping in Lee’s arms.
I looked at my family and just shook my head. Somehow our huge family became even more extensive, and I wasn’t sure how it happened. But I loved it. Everybody was growing up and having kids and just having a life that they’d always wanted.
I could barely keep everything in.
The doorbell rang again, and then Clay walked in without us even having to answer, since he was family.
“You’re here,” Mom said as she pulled the gift out of his hand, handed it over to Dad, and hugged him tight.
Riggs, Clay’s husband, smiled from behind Clay and then was enveloped in the hug as well.
Jackson, Holden, and Mariah, Clay’s cousins, the ones that he had been raising for years now as his own, piled into the house. They were laughing, talking a mile a minute, as everybody wrapped around each other, switching off babies, the noise intensifying.
And this was just the Fort Collins branch.
I knew it was just going to get even louder as each set of the Montgomerys walked in.
“Okay, before the rest of the family gets here, we have an announcement and an idea,” Beckett said as he looked over at his twin, and I froze.
“What’s going on? An announcement?” Everyone else seemed to know what was going on, and I wasn’t a fan of being left out.
“Oh yes, you’re going to be really excited about this,” Paige said as she clapped her hands, and Annabelle grinned.
“I don’t think I like the fact that the four of you know this and I don’t.”
