Me: Your woman is here with Mom, and I bet the other demon spawn is here too.
King: Sucker.
Me: They make my life hell today and I’m going to sic them on you next.
King: I like seeing my woman, so you don’t scare me.
Me: You’ll be scared when I make up some shit that will set her off.
King sends me back a middle finger emoji and I chuckle. I stand and head out front to see what chaos awaits me.
Sage, Syn, and Raven all stand there, and I resist the urge to cringe. All together, these girls are a recipe for disaster. I’m not going to survive on my own, I can feel it. I briefly consider calling in reinforcements, like Shadow, but I don’t really want them to call me a pussy and hold it over my head. So I steel myself and emerge from the hallway. “This is a place of business, ladies,” I pointedly remind them. “I will not hesitate to kick your asses out if you start shit.”
All three of them roll their eyes at me. You would think Syn would be the reasonable one out of the three of them, seeing as she’s a K9 trainer and seems to be pretty level-headed. She’s a stunner too, and while the gunmetal blue eyes and fiery red hair might work for most, she’s still not my type.
Mostly because I’ve seen what those two hellhounds she calls dogs can do to a person. I don’t want to be the one to piss her off. Sage might be crazy, but Syn is a whole other level of danger.
Raven is my now pseudo-adopted sister, which means that she takes every opportunity to drive me crazy. She is a lover of pranks. Once she came in and rearranged my entire office when I told her that her man needed to tie her ass to the bed and leave her there when she pissed me off. With black hair and dark eyes, she’s a badass in a tiny package. Not to mention, she’s a piercer over at Fire & Ink Tattoo Shop, where we all get our ink, and she has the ability to cause me far too much pain.
“You make it sound like we’re going to ransack the place,” Sage sighs.
“I already told your man that if you piss me off I’m sending you over to him.”
Sage smirks. “I’ll go see him next, and how many times do I have to tell you that I’m a fucking delight to be around?”
“Was that before or after you landed your ass in jail for mooning a cop?” I retort.
“I’d like to point out I wasn’t a part of that,” Syn adds.
I give her a mild look. “I’m sure you’ll end up there soon enough with this bunch. Now, are you all here to annoy me or is there a reason for your visit?”
“Torque,” Mom chastises me. “You sound like an asshole.”
I narrow my eyes at her. “Don’t think I’m not watching you. I have a very strong feeling you were the one who called them here in the first place.”
“We’re planning on how we’re going to convince Izzy to come work here after you screw up again,” Sage supplies with a wicked grin. “Personally, I question why she would want to work with the lot of you, but I’m all for girl power. Besides, the pictures I’m going to take for your website and promotional material after she starts working here are going to have this place booming.”
I stare at her. “What?”
“Oh right, we haven’t told him that part,” Sage says with a laugh.
I hold up my hand to ward off any explanations. “I don’t have the mental fortitude to try and figure this shit out. Also, I don’t need your help talking to Izzy. I’m going to put up an ad for a new mechanic, then I’ll tell her about the position, and if she applies then I’ll hire her. If not, that’s it. There is no need for you four to stick your noses in anywhere.”
“There is if we don’t want her telling everyone you’re a sexist asshole,” Raven says with a derisive look my way. “By the way, you’re lucky I only just heard about this, or I would have made you sorry. I haven’t even cracked the surface of all the ways I can make you suffer.”
I ignore her. “Look, I wholly admit I was an asshole, and I’ve already apologized to Izzy. Who has accepted my apology, by the way. So I’m going to put up the ad, and you four go to lunch or go terrorize King and Stone. Hell, go terrorize Shadow for all I care.”
Shadow is going to kill me for mentioning his name, but I’m willing to take the risk if it gets them out of my hair.
“Oooh, that’s a good idea,” Mom agrees with a wicked grin. “I still need to get back at him for the whole bail money thing.”
It’s been a long running joke that we should collect bail money for when the girls all get together. Well, these ones, Alice Lane, and Leonora Lincoln, who have become very good friends with my mother. See, while we were all joking about the bail money thing, Shadow was the smart son of a bitch actually doing it, and when Mom, Sage, Leonora, and Raven got arrested a few months ago, he took great pleasure in holding his I-told-you-so over everyone’s head. Now, we take a bail collection every time they’re together, and it pisses Mom off.
You ask me, we’ll never question Shadow again. I have a feeling this might turn into a regular occurrence. Especially with each new woman that gets added.
I leave them plotting and head for my office. I send Shadow a text to warn him, which earns me a rolling eye emoji in return. I don’t mention the fact it was my suggestion. I’d like to live, thank you very much.
By the end of the day, I haven’t heard explosions or about more jail time so I figure they either changed their minds or Shadow corralled them somewhere until they can be picked up by their men.
