FORTY
TORQUE
Dmitri might think he’s so far ahead of us we’ll never catch him, but we’re closing in faster than he knows.
“Someone got lucky,” Stone smirks when I walk into Church. It’s only him, King, Dad, and myself in the room as we wait for everyone else. Shadow and Viper are on their way back with a report.
I arch a brow at him and point out, “You could be getting lucky too if you weren’t such a stubborn asshole.”
He doesn’t miss the dig and scowls at me. “I’m not sleeping with the cop.”
“She’s not a cop,” King groans, rubbing his hand over his face. “How many times do I have to say that before it’ll stick?”
“She works with them,” Stone argues. “That’s her main source of income, so she might as well be.”
“You make it sound like we have something to worry about,” I argue. “We’re law-abiding citizens, remember? We have nothing to hide.”
“Just the fact we killed that kid for being a damn rat,” Stone mutters.
“I think she knows since she was standing at the top of the damn stairs when we took off to go and get Sage,” King snaps. “And I don’t see the cops crawling all over us.”
Stone is quiet, but I can see King’s point has hit home. Good, hopefully that will make him stop being such an asshole.
“You going to claim Izzy as your Old Lady?” Dad asks me, changing the subject.
“I will eventually, but she’s still skittish about the whole relationship so figured I should wait a little bit,” I answer honestly.
“Don’t wait too long,” Dad warns. “You want a woman, you claim her before you fuck it up.”
“Why does everyone always think I’m going to fuck it up?” I gripe.
“Because you’ve got a dick,” Stone retorts drily. “It’s the way life is.”
I know he’s right, but still, it’s annoying.
“Your mother really likes her,” Dad adds. “Said that she hopes you’re smart and won’t let her get away.”
“I don’t plan to. You like her?” I ask him. I love my mother, and her opinion means a lot, but if I don’t have my father’s approval, I’m not sure that Izzy and I could go far.
Dad smiles at me. “I think she’s smart as hell and will be the voice of reason when it comes to the girls. She’s not afraid to do what’s right, and the two of you have enough in common I think you won’t want for anything to talk about. Only question I have is, what are you going to do if it doesn’t work out and she’s still working at the shop?”
“I’m not firing her,” I tell him firmly. “I’m an asshole, but I’m not a douche. If we don’t work out, she said she’ll work at the shop until she finds something else, and we’ll just agree to be cordial. But I’m not letting it happen. She’s it for me, and I plan on making her see it too.”
Dad nods. “Good. Now we just have to get you to pull your head out of your ass and your mother should finally be happy for a while,” he smirks at Stone.
“She’ll be waiting a long damn time,” Stone vows. “I don’t need an Old Lady. These two,” he says with a jerk of his thumb towards King and I, “and Raven can give you guys all the grandbabies.”
The image of Izzy pregnant with our baby flashes through my head and my dick hardens. I’m glad I’m sitting down, because I don’t need anyone to see that. I glance at King and he doesn’t look the least bit terrified at the thought of kids, so maybe he’s thinking the same thing.
“Someone help us if King and Sage have kids,” Sniper announces as he strides in. “Those brats are going to have us running around the clubhouse putting out fires all the damn time, mark my words.”
“My kids will be angels, asshole,” King retorts without any heat.
“No, that will be Torque and Izzy’s kids. They’ll be all quiet and serious to balance your hellions out.”
I snicker, but King just scowls at Sniper.
Slowly everyone else starts trickling in so our discussion is put to rest. When Shadow and Viper finally arrive, we all go quiet and Dad bangs the gavel. “Alright, we’re here for the report from Shadow and Viper on their stakeout. What have you got for us?” he asks them.
