Shadow just turns and says loudly to Bullet, who’s coming through the door, “Your Ol’ Lady wants to have a girls’ night here with all the girls. Including Alice.”

Bullet scowls. “Over my dead body,” he say with a glare at Rose. “Got enough going on here, woman, and I don’t have time to deal with you and your posse’s escapades.”

Rose and Sage look pissed, while Syn and I roll our eyes. “How about we table it for now?” I suggest calmly. “Though I think a girls’ night sounds lovely. I’ve never had one before and it definitely would be a fun, and new experience for me.” Okay, I’m laying it on kind of thick here, but considering Bullet’s eyes are softening, it must be working. Not that Shadow looks convinced. Viper is just standing here, grinning like a fool and watching the show.

“We’ll talk about it in a few weeks,” Bullet finally concedes.

Rose and Sage share a look, and I have a feeling this definitely won’t take that long. Instead, I smile warmly at him and say, “Thanks, Bullet. I’ll make sure it’s nothing too crazy.”

Syn snorts softly, but I don’t look her way. I have a part to play here. Bullet nods. “And I’ll believe that when I see it, little missy,” he drawls at me. “Torque just let me know he’s on his way back with Zeb.”

“At least they didn’t kill each other,” I joke.

“Your feet are done,” Syn declares, lowering my feet and moving to stand. Viper helps her up and she gives him a wink. “Thanks, handsome.”

“Since we’re finished,” Rose says happily, her irritation forgotten, “I say we go and celebrate with some cake that I made this morning.”

“What cake?” Bullet demands. “I didn’t hear about any such thing.”

“And you won’t,” Rose smirks as she stands with the rest of us. “Wanna deprive me of a girls’ night, then I’ll be depriving you of sweets.” Then, she tosses her hair and struts into the kitchen, leaving the rest of us grinning. Bullet scowls at her back before he follows her.

“I think we should avoid the kitchen for a few minutes,” I remark. The girls nod.

“There you are, Izzy,” Medic’s voice sounds out as he comes through the front door. “I wanted to do a quick check up with you if you’ve got a second.”

I smile at him. “Sure.”

“Let’s head up to your room and we’ll have a look,” he says. I nod at the girls and hurry to follow him. When we’re in Torque and I’s room, he does a quick check of all my vitals and asks me a few questions. “Any headaches?”

“Nothing.”

“Seizures?”

“Nope.”

“What about cravings?”

I arch a brow in question. “What kind of cravings? I mean, I have a craving for some cake right now because Rose said she made one.”

He shakes his head. “No, I meant are you craving something to take the edge off. You were given a very high dose of two addictive drugs, Izzy, and that is the biggest thing I want to watch you for.”

I think about it for a moment. “I did feel like I wanted something last night, but to be honest, it was only for a second and then I dismissed it. I haven’t felt that way since. So you think I’m addicted to it now?” The thought terrifies me.

“Heroin and cocaine are drugs you can become addicted to instantly,” Medic explains. “Perhaps you’ll have a delayed reaction, but I fully expect you at some point to crave the drugs. Whether you get highly agitated or emotional about something, or Torque pisses you off, or you have a bad day at the shop, something could trigger you to want to forget about it. And I don’t have to tell you that things will go downhill very quickly if you give in.”

I lick my lips nervously. “What do I do?” I whisper, belly clenching in fear.

“I want you to promise me that you’ll either talk to Torque or me if that happens,” he says seriously. “Maybe you won’t have those kinds of craving, but if you do, we want to help. Torque is going to move heaven and earth to make sure that you get whatever you need.”

I nod slowly. “I, I just, I never ever thought this would happen,” I say sadly. “Now I have to worry about being some kind of druggie.” Tears coat my throat.

“We will never let that happen,” Torque’s voice says from the doorway, making my head jerk up. I see him and Zeb standing there, and Zeb looks thunderous. Torque immediately moves towards me and scoops me up into his arms, sitting me down on his lap when he sits on the edge of the bed. “I’ve got you, baby,” he promises. “I will support you and do everything to make sure you’re happy and healthy.”

“And if you don’t feel comfortable with him, you call me,” Zeb says gruffly, stepping inside. “You spent an awful lot of time alone, but you aren’t doing that anymore. You have me, the guys at the shop back home, you have your man, and you have your new family here. None of us will let you be alone again, and that means you need to tell us when you’re having a problem.”

I sniff, wiping at the tears that are leaking from my eyes. “I’m so scared,” I whisper.

“Then you need to lean on me and I’ll make it better,” Torque promises. “I will do anything to help you, Izzy. I love you, and that’s part of the deal.”
