Chapter thirteen

Reece

Openingmyeyes,I’m rewarded with a perfect view of Bennett. He’s lying on his side, with one arm tucked under his head, facing me. I watch as he sleeps heavily, snoring and mumbling at the same time. Bennett moves his right arm and absentmindedly reaches out for me. He lays his hand on my hip, but that only lasts a few seconds before he rests it on the top of my ass and pulls me closer to him. Funny thing is, he’s totally out of it.

I can’t help myself. Reaching out I gently trail my fingertips down his nose, around his lips and across to his strong jawline. “If you keep doing that, I might never let you go,” his voice is gravelly and thick with sleep.

“I didn’t want to wake you.” I move my hand away to let him sleep. “I shouldn’t have woken you. I doubt you get a lot of sleep.”

He opens his eyes and blinks several times. Bennett lifts his head and looks over my shoulder at the digital clock on the bedside table. “Ugh. It’s just after three.” A guttural sound escapes from his throat. “Why are you even awake?” He kisses my forehead before turning to lie on his back. I can’t help but notice the tent under the covers. I swing my leg over his thighs, and Bennett’s hand soothingly rests on my leg. I slide over and sit on his thighs. “I could get used to this, Reece.”

Reaching across his taut body, I grab a condom from the other bedside table. I tear the packet open and carefully roll the condom on his hard cock. Sinking down on him, I roll my hips. I close my eyes, arch my back and extend my neck. “Mmmm.”

Bennett’s strong fingers grip the curve of my ass as I slowly swivel my hips trying to find the right spot to trigger my own release. “What are you doing, Reece?” Bennett whispers.

“I can stop if you want?”

“God no, don’t stop.” Bennett’s breathing changes while his hands dance around my body, gripping, tightening, claiming. Neither of us last long. Both of us needed it more than we thought we did. I collapse on top of him as he hugs me close to his body. “I like waking up like this.” Bennett draws lazy patterns on my back as I catch my breath.

This moment feels like so much more. It’s as if an unspoken emotion passes between us. I lie on his chest as I watch the moments tick over, one to the next. Neither of us are talking, simply enjoying the now of this quiet time together. Of course, my head gets in the way, overthinking everything and the potential danger I’ve put both of us in by staying the night. If the press gets a whiff of this, his presidency is over, not to mention what Emily will go through. “I should leave before anyone sees me.” I try to push off him, but he tightens his arms around me almost like a vice. “Bennett, what are you doing?”

“I want you to stay.”

“This is complicated.” I successfully maneuver out of his grasp and sit on the edge of the bed.

“There’s nothing complicated about it.”

I snort as I shake my head. “Except you’re the president. And, I’m a twenty-five-year-old escort with a daughter who’s ten.” I turn to look at him over my shoulder. Sighing, I stand and head into the bathroom. When I return, Bennett waltzes past me and I search for my clothes that are scattered over the room.

“What are you doing?” Bennett asks as he struts back to the bed, completely naked.

“I’m going to go home.”

“Nope, you’re not. Come here.” He crooks his finger, summoning me back to the bed.

Hesitating, I nibble on my lower lip as I consider everything. “This should end now, before something drastic happens.”

“Tell me about Emily.” His words throw me off; I’m not prepared for this. I shake my head as I stare at the crumpled bedding. “If we have any chance, you need to tell me about Emily.”

“I can’t,” I say with a shaky voice.

“Why?”

“I can’t be here anymore. It’s too much of a risk to her...and you.”

Bennett lifts his hand and tucks some of the hair falling over the side of my face to behind my ear. “I’m not letting you go, Reece. You need to talk to me, and tell me about Emily.”

I stand and resume putting my clothes on. “I can’t,” I say as I hold onto my tears.

“Why? Will something happen to you if you tell me? I’ll protect you.”

I gather all my courage and look to Bennett. “We really need to talk about Grayson. He can’t keep protecting me, Bennett. You need to let him do his job.”

“He is. He’s protecting you,” Bennett counters.

“No.” I lift my hand and wave it to him. “He needs to get back to being here, not sitting in a car outside my house. Bring him back here, let him do what he’s trained to do.” Bennett drops his gaze as he thinks about my request. “You need to be smart about this.”

“About what?”
