A small smile pulls at my lips. “Monday night.” Mark stands imposingly by the garage door. Although his back is turned to us, he can hear everything we’re talking about. “Unless something happens.”

“Monday night.” He kisses me one final time before taking a breath and heading out to the garage.

“Hey.” He stops and turns. “We need to talk about this.” I point to the garage.

A giant beaming smile graces his handsome face. “Monday night.”

I roll my eyes and shake my head. “Good night, Mr. President,” I say in a husky voice. He stops walking and shakes his head. Yeah, good. I like knowing how much I affect him. I head back to the family room and sit on the sofa. “Emily?”

“Yeah, Mom.” Emily sneaks Bennett’s money into her pile as she packs his piece away.

“You can’t tell anyone Bennett was here.”

“Okay. Why?”

“Because a lot of bad things will happen if anyone finds out.”

“Like what?”

“Stuff at school, stuff with me, stuff with him, maybe even stuff with Tash.”

“Me?” Tash asks as she places her hand to her chest. “Like what?” She nibbles on her lower lip.

“I’m just saying, this stays here, with us. Okay?” I specifically look to Emily. “No one can know.”

“I won’t say anything.” She crosses her heart. “I swear.”

“Okay, well, let’s get on with the game. I’m poor and need money. But I’m coming after you.” I point to Emily.

“Me? Why me?”

“Because you boosted Bennett’s money, and kept it for yourself.”

“What?” she shrieks with a wide smile. Picking up the dice, she rolls them, and the night continues.

It’s definitely not the way I thought tonight was going to go.
