Chapter 5
Merging Packs
Katie's POV
I slept awful. Tossing and turning all night replaying what took place between me and my father. I can’t believe he hit me, reaching to touch my face I could feel the cut on my left cheek. His ring cut me. Snoring? Who could be snoring? My eyes shot open as I saw Alexander asleep across from my bed on the couch in my room. I briefly remember him coming to my room after what happened. He stayed all night? I smiled slightly knowing at least I wasn't alone. I reach over and check my smartphone. Oh no, it's lunchtime. I overslept and my father is going to be mad. I jumped out of bed in a rush, this must have startled Alexander as he sat up sluggishly.
"Katie, what's wrong?" He was barely awake and looked so exhausted as if he was up most of the night. Was he up watching me sleep perhaps? His silverish gray hair was a complete mess and his deep luring forest green eyes seemed to draw me in. He smelt like a heavenly mix of cedarwood, amber, musk, cherry tobacco, and hints of citrus. It was as if my mind was getting clouded with the scent, suffocating if you would but in a lustful way. I've never actually had the chance to look at him and take in his stunning features. I smile at him and his exhausted self.
"Well, it's lunch time and I bet my father isn't happy his beta has been missing all morning." I chuckle as his eyes widen and he rushed out of the room not even closing the door behind him, the look of terror on his face. I shake my head and get up from my comfortable fluffy bed to go close the door.
The Black Bloods Pack gets here today and I'm not looking forward to meeting my soon-to-be husband. I don't know anything about him, why must my father do this? I wanted the person I marry to be someone I truly love and not a stranger used to merge our packs, but I guess I should give up on that dream. Since it's an important day, I decided to dress up. I grabbed a black casual dress with crimson floral designs and crimson heels so that I represented our pack. I leave my blonde hair down as I can't stand having it up. It gets so annoying. My phone started buzzing on my nightstand.
They are arriving Katie, get down here now. We are outside the pack mansion. My father let me know in a text.
I look out my window pushing the sheer white curtains aside and see deep navy blue and white cars driving towards the mansion that must be their pack colors. How boring such dull pack colors. Rushing downstairs to not be late, I get there to see my father, Alexander, Maxwell, and Charlie.
My father was wearing black dress pants with his black button-up long sleeve shirt and crimson tie. His black dress shoes were shining in the sunlight, freshly polished I assumed. Alexander was matching my father perfectly and looked stunning as ever. Why was I so focused on him suddenly? Maybe him staying the night made me realize how much he cared. Maxwell and Charlie were wearing matching fancy crimson red button-up shirts with black pants, and black dress shoes. Their tie was black instead of red so it stood out against their shirts. I hurried to my father’s left side as Alexander was to his right. Alexander glanced over and smiled at me, but I could tell by the look in his eyes he was a mix of anger and something. I’m angry as well but I didn’t understand the other emotion on his face.
Their cars came to a stop. The lead car’s door opened and a tall stocky male got out, his hair was short and a sandy light copper with olive tan skin. He had a full beard and brown eyes. Compared to my father, he seemed to be on the short side.He came walking towards us alone, the rest of his pack staying in their cars. He looks so old please tell me this isn't who my father plans to force me to marry. I start feeling nervous causing my heart rate to pick up. I'm so scared this is who I’ve been promised like a participation prize. It's sickening.
"Bradley Steele, my old friend." Damian embarrassed him.
"It's been a while, Damian." Bradley smiled at my father and then looked at me. His eyes drift all over my body taking in my elegant figure, this is making me even more nauseous. At this point, I feel like I may just vomit where I stand.
"She looks just like her mother, my old friend." His voice was firm and light at the same time, he carried a southern accent, but it wasn't thick like I'm used to hearing, it was more city-based.
I looked at Alexander, his fist was balled so tight it started to bleed a small amount. He has never been fond of anyone lustfully looking at me. I chalked it up to him being the beta and close to my father.
"Dylan." Bradley says calmly while looking back at the car, that it must be his son, thank god my father isn't forcing me to be with that old man, as he looks like the oldest one here.
The next thing I noticed was a tall male with an extremely toned physique, his clothes were tight due to his muscular frame getting out of the lead car. It was as if he needed to go up a size to prevent them from ripping. He had black hair that was short on the side and longer on top, it was combed over to the left. His bright icy blue eyes captured mine, something was captivating about them yet also something cold. He was wearing a fancy white dress shirt that looked uncomfortable and itchy with dark blue dress pants and dark brown dress shoes.
Why was he so stunning yet so off-putting? I thought to myself, or at least I thought I did until he simply looked at me and smirked.
Oh my god. I just told him telepathically that I think he is stunning. My face felt hot as the embarrassment grew. I'm glad he is nice to look at since we are to be married but there is just something about him, a feeling I can't shake.
"Katie, come here." My father called for me and I went to him without hesitation, I might as well get this ridiculous meet and greet over. As I walked to him, Alexander flinched as if he wanted to stop this from happening but couldn’t go against my father.
"Katie, meet Bradley and Dylan Steele." He smiled at me and then looked at them firmly as if to say she's my daughter do not hurt her, or I’ll kill you where you stand. While this might be an arranged marriage, maybe my father still cared about what I wanted and how I felt. I could use that to my advantage to have this entire marriage called off.
"Hello." They seem taken back by how soft my voice is compared to my father's. Dylan is looking me up and down as if he was searching for something and was displeased with me, what a jerk. I look back at him, his right arm has a tribal mark running down it, that must be his alpha mark.
"Where's her mark? She is the heir, right?" Dylan blurts out his eyes, studying me with distaste. His voice sounded harsh and intimidating. It was clear he was an alpha or would have been in his pack.
Did my father not tell them my age? I looked over at Bradley and he frowned he is not happy his son acted this way. Don’t worry I dislike how he acted towards me as well.
"Damian, I apologize for my son." Bradley pleads with my father as he was getting extremely angry. My father could tell that Dylan looked at me as if I was the bottom of the bottom just being promised to him to win them over.
I can’t believe this guy thought we needed to win their small pack over. A growl escaped my father, and a murderous look crossed his face. He was going to attack them for the simple way I’m being looked at. Alexander quickly picked up on it, shit everyone picked up on it. Was this the end of the proposed merger? God, I hoped so, then I wouldn’t have to marry him. Bradley's eyes went wide, and Alexander took a step forward as if to get closer to me in case a fight broke out. Alexander would make sure I was out of the way of any stray blows.
"This is my daughter Katie; you will not disrespect her." My father said his voice was even fiercer than normal. "She is not eighteen yet, so her mark isn't visible."
It was as if my father was a ticking time bomb before he hurt someone here. Yet, he was right after all; an heir's mark does not show until they are eighteen years old. That is when we are considered mature and able to be alphas, once the mark shows.
"I apologize I was unaware she was so young." Dylan says to my father.
Of course, my father didn't tell them I'm only seventeen, great dad. Alexander was still close to me, so close he was touching me. Then I glanced over at Dylan curiously, how old is he I wondered to myself. He didn’t look to be much older than me but looks mean nothing to us werewolves.
