She was the spitting image of her mother. Long flowing blonde hair and vibrant teal eyes. She got her mother’s hair color yet missed the curls. She was, from what the pack says, the most beautiful wolf on the east coast. Alexander looked at her with love in his eyes every time. I knew he was head over heels for her, but it felt so wrong. She's never seemed to notice yet everyone else did. Would allowing them to be together be the best choice a father could make? They are twelve years apart.
"Katie, I summoned you here because we will be going on a night hunt and should return tomorrow morning. In the meantime, you will oversee the pack in my absence." Since her mother was killed, I've held a dark and deep threatening tone with everyone, even my beloved daughter.
I sighed and took my silk crimson tie off as she smiled and turned to leave. She wouldn't try challenging my choices on this day. She wouldn’t even bother speaking back to me. I know I’ve been too harsh on her since her mother died, but it hurts me more and more watching her grow up to be the spitting image of Rose. Showing that I cared so much about my family is what got Rose killed. If I had been an uncaring bastard like my father was, maybe Rose would still be here.
"Sir, I'm not sure that's the best idea. It's storm-" Alexander started trying to talk some sense into me and I pushed him into a wall.
I was having none of it. I needed away on a day like this. I needed to remember the way it felt all those years ago. The way the rain felt.
"We are going. Be glad I'm allowing anyone to come with me." I snapped at him making it clear I'd rather go out alone.
It's the anniversary of my love’s death and the death of my unborn child. I want to be alone, but since I'm an alpha I can't be. I released him from the wall and sighed, Alexander was my best friend. Why was I like this? I couldn’t control my anger since that tragic day, hell even Alexander and Katie held out hope I’d smile again. My mind was made up. I wouldn’t return to my old self to keep my family safe.
Alexander looked at me with worry in his eyes. He is my best friend, my beta, and I put him into a wall. He sighed and walked out to gather a small group of hunters for our unscheduled hunt. I turned my back to my office door and started a fire in the fireplace. The flames danced around and seemed to calm the beast in me as tears trickled from my eyes. I'll never forget how I lost my whole world in one day. I punched the bricks around the fireplace and cracked some of them in places with the blow. Damnit.
Composing myself I turned around to see Alexander standing in silence. His face said it all. He knew this would either be good or bad, however, I could tell he was leaning towards bad. I threw him a devilish look and walked out of my office to meet the hunters. I could care less what happened to me, Alexander would assist Katie. I wanted to join Rose and our son. I would throw my life away to be with her again.
"We will head towards the southern region of the territory and hunt. We will rest there and return at sunrise." I commanded and we shifted setting off on our hunt.
The pack mansion is getting further and further away with each stride. A mansion I wish I could run away from. Rose had designed it before she was taken from me. I made sure to follow her notes to the last detail. I even tied in her old childhood pack color, gold.
