Chapter 12

Eighteen Pt 2

Katie's POV

The water had turned cold as I stepped out of the shower and looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes were a little bloodshot but not too bad. They should be cleared up before dinner so that no one can tell I had cried my eyes out. My skin was red from the intensely hot water. I exhaled and turned to grab my blow dryer. Normally, I towel dry my hair, but today is my big day so I can't wait around for my hair to dry fully on its own. I turned it on, and the loud sound of the fan annoyed me as it forced air on my hair and broke the silence in my bedroom. Thankfully it's a good brand so it won't take long at all before my hair is completely dry.

After fifteen minutes my hair is dry and a hot mess. I burst out as I laughed at myself in the mirror with fluffy hair. I brushed fiercely to calm the out-of-control fluff ball that sat on top of my head. Once that had been tamed, I moved on to my makeup bag. I rarely used makeup and honestly, I think I'll skip putting any on. I put the makeup bag back on my vanity. If I meet my mate tonight, I want him to love me for how I look and not because of a mask of makeup. I’ve always felt that makeup isn’t needed to be beautiful. If I was rejected due to being my natural self, then so be it.

I turned to walk out of my bathroom from my vanity in just black lace underwear and no bra. This feels so free to not wear one. I wonder what kind I'll need for the dress my father picked. I walked over to my bed, my long blonde hair perfectly straight against me. I opened the box and gasped in shock.

In the box was a stunningly sexy deep crimson dress with jet black lace floral designs going down each side. I grabbed it to examine it more and found out it was a strapless dress with an open back. It looked like it would hug every curve in my body. The front had a built-in bra with some padding. The high heels were black and three inches tall which was perfect for my clumsy self. It came with a necklace that was black with rubies embedded in it. My father sure knew how to pick formal dresses out. That’s when I noticed a note tucked away in the box. It was an envelope that was aged and stained. I hoped the letter wasn’t damaged in any way. Strangely, my father brought me this gift and yet didn’t bother to even mention a letter. I sat the dress, heels, and necklace down on the bed and opened the letter as carefully as possible to not damage it.

My dearest Katie,

Honey, I hope that your eighteenth birthday is one filled with happiness. I know you're but a toddler now however, I have the strangest feeling about my love. The feeling that I may not be there to see you grow up. Your father and I are so proud of you Katie Bug. We always will be regardless of what you may believe. You are an adventurous little girl and the whole pack just adores you. Don't tell your father this but you have him wrapped around your pinky and I’m sure that you always will.

Now honey if something does happen and I'm not there to see you turn into the beautiful girl and wolf I know you will just know how much I love you. Your father and I picked out this dress for you even with you being so small. I pushed him to let us do this because of our past. The necklace my darling is mine and I hope it looks more stunning on you than it ever did me.

I'm sorry my darling if there are stains on this as I'm crying while writing to you. Pregnancy hormones are acting crazy, but an uncontrollable fear of dread is weighing on me. I pray I am wrong and that I'll be able to see my sweet innocent daughter grow into an amazing wolf and future alpha. That’s all I’ve ever asked for in life sweetheart.

Oh, don't forget to keep your father in check if I'm not around. Losing a mate can drive a wolf crazy and blood-thirsty darling. I beg of you to never let that happen to your father. If he starts to drift into the darkness, please be his light. Please do not let him dwell in the past no matter how hard things become. And sweetheart if you ever feel something is wrong tell your father.

- Love mom.

P.S. I hope our past never crosses into your life Katie Bug. You will forever be the perfect little girl I love more than life itself.

I sat there and cried my eyes out as I read the letter my mother wrote me. It was still sealed so I know my father never messed with it. A crimson rose stamped in wax had kept this letter safe for all these years. As I cried holding this letter, my tears soaked the paper and smeared some of the ink. My mother's last words sat there in my hand. I love you, mom. I always will and I'll never forget you, never in a million years. Don't worry mom, I'll save my father from the madness he has fallen into. I wiped my face of tears and thought about anything possible to keep myself at least calm so that I didn’t leave my room crying. I folded the letter back up and tucked it under my pillow. I want to show my father but now is not the time for that. We must get through this dinner with the other packs.I just had no idea what my mother meant about her and my father’s past. I needed to make him tell me, so I knew what to be cautious of.

I grabbed the dress and necklace and headed to the bathroom. I slowly put the dress on as it hugged every curve of my figure tightly. Thankfully I didn’t have to suck in too much to get it on and zipped in the back. This dress defined my curves perfectly for someone my size. I’m not sure how my mother knew it would fit me but I’m glad it did. I would never get rid of this dress. I'm not a big woman, I'm skinny yet I have a decent size ass and bust. I grabbed my mother’s necklace and placed it around my neck. It completed my outfit while also not being too flashy. It was a small chain necklace that resembled lace with rubies cut in the shape of roses along the front. They looked as if the rubies had been hand-carved by an expert crafter. I remember seeing photos of my mother with this necklace on. I smiled as it felt like she was here with me when I wore this. I finally had something of my mother’s to cherish.

Outside I could hear people talk and cars start to pull up. I walked to my balcony and peeked outside; the other packs had finally arrived. Their alphas and betas with their heirs and some of their higher-ranking wolves. They brought about twenty wolves total between the two packs. Father must have limited how many in case anything happened. He would have wanted the upper hand in terms of numbers. I walked to my bed and sat down placing the heels on my feet as a sigh escaped me. I checked my phone it was four fifty-five in the afternoon. It's time.

Dylan's POV

It's Katie's birthday. I thought to myself, hating how I’ve ignored her this past week. She tried to text me, and I left her on read. I couldn’t face her after the issue with Alexander since she almost got hurt. My chest hurt when I thought about how I nearly lost my mate before my eyes. At least this feeling between us made it seem like she was my mate. Tears of anger rolled down my face as I stepped out of the shower. I walked over to my closet and grabbed a pair of dark blue dress pants and a white dress shirt. Since I hold no rank here, I will wear my birth pack's colors. I would continue to represent my pack regardless of the merge I growled out. My black hair was a complete mess, so I brushed it to give me a clean look. My icy blue eyes pierced my reflection in my mirror. I'm a mess.

Everything about me has been a mess this past week. I need her. I need Katie. I shouldn't have stormed out on her. I shouldn’t have ignored her. I sighed again and walked to my door. The smell of fresh roses mixed with rain and a hint of sweet vanilla, Katie's scent. It was heavenly to me, and I could barely handle it. Her scent was stronger to me now that she was finally eighteen. I was so ready to see her and just take what I wanted. She's finally mine.

I stepped out of my room and headed downstairs. It was four-thirty in the afternoon according to my watch when I reached the first floor. I looked and saw my father as he stood with the Alpha and two other wolves I didn't know. It's rather odd that the pack has outsiders here. It would be fine if the heir was single, but she isn’t, she is engaged; to me. Alexander is off to the side and seemed to have a stare-down with the two unknown males. My father saw me and waved me over to him. Great, I thought to myself as I went to his side, I did not want to meet anyone I simply wanted to find Katie, I longed for her. It was as if during this short week apart I was starting to go crazy.

"Dylan meet Drake Seabra, the alpha of the White Dawn Pack. This is Eric Walker, the alpha of the Eight Moons Pack." My father said to me as he smiled. He must have been friends with them as well. I looked at the two alphas so I could size them up. I’d be lying if I didn’t say they were at least decent to look at. I also didn’t see any mates with them. Drake was a tall, roughly six-foot-three, pale guy. His complexion reminded me of Katie’s pale skin. I’ve heard of his pack and how far north they are. I suppose the weather results in him not getting out often. He was athletically built yet didn’t have a large amount of muscle mass like me. Drake had shaggy sandy brown hair which covered his eyes and was well beyond overdue for a haircut in my opinion. I barely got a glimpse of his eyes to see they were two different colors. His left eye was a caramel brown, and his right eye was deep sea blue. That’s rare in wolves. So rare I couldn’t remember the last time it was recorded. He had scars all over his arms and the left side of his face. Some looked rather fresh. I could also see how people would be scared of him. They were jagged and stretched from the bridge of his nose to his ear.

Then I looked at Eric, the alpha standing next to Drake, they seemed close. He was a short stocky guy, maybe five-foot-five and about 200 pounds. He had long white hair, but it was kept neat and braided. He had a full-blown beard while Drake was clean-shaven. His beard was kept perfectly trimmed. Eric had smokey gray eyes that seemed to pierce the soul as if it was his to reap.

"Hello," I say to them respectfully as they nod to me. I checked the time to see it was five in the afternoon, it’s time for the party so where is, I get cut off by an announcement.

"Welcome the heir to the Dark Silence Pack, Katie Knight." A lady with a Boston accent announced to everyone in a mansion. The room fell silent as Katie stood there ready to descend the stairs and join her father. Her magnificent crimson dress hugged every curve in her body. The black floral design was stunning.

She was breathtaking and everyone here knew it as I heard gasp fill the air at the mere sight of her. What they didn't know was she was all mine, even if she didn’t know it. My heart was pounding away in my chest as she got closer to us. I felt as if I may either get sick or rush her, a feeling all new to me. Her father made his way through the crowd to her side. A part of me felt jealous he was the first to her and not me.

"Happy Birthday, Katie Bug." He smiled at her as she blushed with embarrassment. "Everyone, your future alpha!"

The mansion exploded with cheers from the pack. The other alphas were staring her down and it took everything in me to not growl at them. I could see the hunger, the lust in their eyes as they stared her down like prey. God only knows the thoughts that coursed through their heads, but I can’t say mine was much better. All I could do was imagine her dress on the floor and her body pressed against mine. It was hard thinking of everything I would do to that perfect body of hers, how I would use and abuse it to my heart’s content.
