Chapter 19

Traitor Among Us

Alexander’s POV

The light was off in Damian’s office when I finally made my way there, yet I could sense he was still in his office. Before that punk Dylan told anyone else, I needed to tell Damian. He needed to be able to hear it directly from me that things got out of line with Katie. A soft tap on the door is all I could bring myself to do. A light tap should be all that is needed for Damian to know I was there. The door creaked open to reveal a partially away Damian. Did he fall asleep at his desk again? I walked in and he just looked at me with a blank stare. This would go one of two ways, both not good. I sighed long and hard as I thought about how to tell him and yet my body had its plan.

“I fucked up.” The words no longer able to be held back rolled so effortlessly off my tongue “I saw Katie and almost slept with her. That Dylan kid stopped me.” That left a bad taste in my mouth, yet it lit a fire in Damian’s eyes. I almost had his daughter and someone else saved her from me. I could have hurt her and not even noticed until it was too late. The one person I never want to cause harm and I almost did just that.

“You did fucking what to my daughter!?” If a person could have steam roll off them that would be Damian. I knew he would be pissed. Hell, he may even go as far as killing me here in his office. I’d accept my fate if that’s what came of it. My love for her is undying and if it took her father killing me to keep her safe from my advances so be it.

“Damian, I didn’t rape her. I would never do that because I love her.” I tried to redeem myself, but I doubt it would work. He was more than likely trying to determine how to kill me at this point. I never wanted any of this. I never wanted to lose control around her ever. She may not know who her mate is and that’s fine because my feelings for her will never change.

“Love? How can you love her!? You’re twelve years older than her Alex!” He was losing any bearing he had on his emotions. He wasn’t wrong about the age gap. I was decently older than her, but love knows no age. I have also been near her since she was born and yet I didn’t care. Damian knew this. His temper exploded into a deadly rage as he threw things across the office at me. Love. I loved Katie with my entire heart, and I would gladly die for her. I would give up everything I had to be with her. Why couldn’t he see that? He was the same way towards Rose. Head over heels and willing to lose it all. We were the same when it came to love.

“I don’t care that I’m older! How could you not have noticed?” I was shocked, surely Damian had noticed. It was impossible to miss the fact I loved his daughter. The entire pack knew how I felt about Katie and so did the new members. I gave up on my attempt to hide how I felt. I craved for her to know. I wished she felt the same. No, I hoped she felt the same. No one knew how much I prayed that she would accept my feelings for her. Damian would have to be blind or in denial to miss it. I could understand the denial since she is his baby girl, but shouldn’t he want her happy?

“I knew. I just hoped I was wrong. I hoped you, being my best friend, would end your desire for my daughter.” Damian sounded so defeated in his response to my question. As if he wanted the friendship to triumph over love. I just don’t understand, so many people were against him and Rose and yet he didn’t stop. In fact, it made them stronger in the end, a power couple. He even killed those in his way of love when it came to Rose. Not even his own family could come between them.

“Like how you didn’t stop with-” I couldn’t finish what I started to say before the office doors burst open. Bloody and broken in a sense Tagon laid there in the arms of the patrol. What in the hell was going on now?

“What the fuck happened to Tagon?” Now I was pissed, she was just a kid. I knew people in the pack had bullied her, but this was too much. There was no need to hurt Tagon to the extent of knocking her unconscious. Whoever did this would have to pay with their life.

Damian’s POV

Love!? Alexander truly thinks he loves my daughter!? I can’t tell which I would rather do, vomit or kill him. My best friend, my right hand since we were kids, is in love with my daughter whom he watched grow up? Hell, he had even babysat her before. How did he go from being the older brother she looked up to and turn into a love interest? The world spun around me with the number of emotions this made me feel. He kept mentioning Rose and my relationship and what he doesn’t know is that while no one wanted us together we didn’t have a history like he and Katie. No, Rose was my childhood friend from another pack. She and Alexander were the only two alive who know my true history. He for sure knew how different the two relationships were. I want Katie happy, but I’m not sure if Alexander can truly give her the happiness she deserves. I’ve already given him an ear full and before I could continue to go off on him someone dumbass has the balls to storm into my office.

“What the fuck happened to her!?” Alexander yelled at them. Tagon was blooded and unconscious in a patrol member’s arms. My anger had a new target, the patrol. Why in the world did they feel the need to attack a fucking kid. A kid who has never caused an issue in this god damn pack. Alexander was furious as well, maybe we could both get some anger out.

“She was on the phone with someone.” One of the men said as Alexander slammed him into a wall. He had his arm across the guy’s throat and was furious. At least we can agree on something. Still a phone call? That’s not grounds for doing this to her. Also, where’s the phone if that was the case.

“Where is the phone and what was the call about?” I demanded answers and they fulfilled my demands hastily. The one Alexander had against the wall pulled her phone from his pocket, his face turning red and slightly purple. Alexander wasn’t even allowing a breath to escape him. I snatched it and checked the call log. Sure, enough there was an incoming call from an unknown number that lasted but a few minutes.

“Alpha whoever that was, she was discussing a plan to attack the pack. She threatened to kill Katie along with the rest of the pack. We overheard her while on patrol as it was during patrol change. She tried to run, and we stopped her.” He was calm and collected as he held her unconscious body. Alexander released the other patrol member letting him gasp for the air his body greatly missed. So, she was a traitor, I guess that would explain why she was so much of a loner in the pack. We haven’t had one in the longest time and yet here we are. People knew better than to fuck with us. Things have been quiet minus some rogues here and there. The timing was rather odd.

“Alexander call for the twins. You two take her to the dungeon and chain her up. Make sure you use the gloves to not hurt yourselves.” They left as quickly as they had entered. Alexander abandoned our conversation and headed for the twins. He was done discussing his feelings for if not he would have stayed.

If anyone could get an answer from her it would be the twins and Alexander. I’ll keep her phone in case that person calls back. I turned the volume to max and threw it in my desk drawer. Finally, I’m alone to get lost in thought. I need to figure out a way to get Alexander to move on from Katie. I won’t deny that he would be good for her, mainly because of how protective he already is. Sadly, the history between them is more like brother and sister. Damnit.

Alexander’s POV

How did I miss this? How did I miss that Tagon was a fucking traitor? I growled at myself as I walked down to the twin’s room. Ah, the twins. They were the absolute brutalist members of the pack with no regard for the pain they inflict on others. That’s why when we need someone questioned and tortured, we call upon them. They are also the most gruesome on the battlefield. It was so rare it was almost unheard of for a werewolf to have twins. Normally during a twin pregnancy, one or both twins die in the womb, it’s a five percent chance both live. This is the perfect excuse to get the conversation with Damian out of my head. I sighed to myself, oh Katie. Her father wouldn’t bless off on anything between us, but the question is do I let that stop me from trying? I’ve kept so much hidden for Damian, even hidden from Katie herself, and yet he doesn’t want me near his daughter in that.

My walk was thought-filled and interesting; however, I finally reached the twin’s room. They are the furthest away on the first floor, hidden out of sight. We felt that was best due to how they can be with people without even realizing it. I don’t even have to knock, their door flew open, and they stood there with a grin on their faces. Of course, they could smell me down the hall.

Aspen and Maddox were identical twins until it came to their scars, the only things making them stand apart. They were both six foot five, blazing fiery red hair, their right eyes were a light pale green while their left eyes were a deep bronze brown. Aspen had a row of four scars that stretched from his left ear, over his nose, and to his right ear. A rogue had managed to tear its entire paw right across his face causing him to almost lose his face. Thankfully Derrick was able to save his face.

Maddox had a scar that ran from his left eyebrow down his chin and throat to his collar bone. A scar caused by his quick movement during an attack. The twins were only twenty-seven years old and had been through hell and back. They each had random scars across their arms, some similar and some not. Their facial scars were the clearest way to determine who was who. These two have been so bent on killing and torture I doubt they’ve even attempted to find a mate.

“Come with me, we have someone who needs questioned.” I order them as if they have no choice in the matter. It wasn’t like they would care since this was their favorite pastime.

“Who fucked up?” Aspen asked with a hint of joy in his question. These two psychopaths will be the death of me. They enjoyed this type of thing way too much and I was disturbed by that more than I should be given all I’ve seen in life.

“Tagon” I responded annoyed. Why did it have to be her of all people? She seemed like a good kid, maybe with some built-up anger. However, nothing to show she would turn her back on this pack. We took her in after all.

“Always the quiet one.” Maddox shrugged as we headed down the stairs near their room and towards the dungeon.

Tagon would be in the furthest cell in the dungeon. Each cell had two layers of concrete walls with a layer of soundproof padding between them. The doors had two layers of two-inch-thick steel that also contained soundproof padding between them. This place was designed so that no one would ever hear those being kept down here. Each cell had its own torture devices and a wall of silver chains with silver shackles attached. No one ever made it out of this dungeon alive once held prisoner here. That was how things went, torture and kill. A “no witness” policy if you would.

“Are y’all ready?” I’m not even sure why I asked as we reached her cell. My hand gripping the handle ready to push the door open. Yet a slight hesitation as I still couldn’t believe that this kid would become a traitor.
