He was supposed to be perfect. My very own prince charming who showed up and rescued me from myself, my life, the world. And he was…until he wasn’t.
Matthew was everything a girl ever dreamed of finding. Suave, debonair, and the most good-looking man I’d ever seen. His hard muscles made me swoon whenever he lifted me into his arms, and I drowned in his blue eyes on a daily basis. I counted myself lucky that he gave me a chance. Hell, I’d been blessed by the universe that he spoke to me that first day.
With my arms loaded down with textbooks and papers while trying to hold an umbrella, I stumbled through the rain, attempting to get to my class two blocks away. I was cold and wet, but I had to save the pages. They were my report, and if it had one drop of water on it or it wasn’t turned in on time, my professor would have failed me. Stressed didn’t begin to cover what I felt at the time.
I was a freshman in college, trying to find my way in the world as I lived away from my parents for the first time in my life. I went to class, studied, ate, studied, slept, and repeated the same thing every day. No one gave me a second look, and most of the time, I had to dodge bodies because many never noticed me, to begin with. I blended into the scenery, the true definition of a wallflower.
Until him.
Staggering through the hall toward my class, a door burst open, hitting me and knocking me on my ass. My books and report flew through the air, settling in a mess around me. No one stopped to apologize. They simply walked off without a care in the world while I sat there on the cold floor on the verge of tears.
“You okay?” a deep, masculine voice asked.
I looked up and found an angel. He had to be since he looked too good to be from this place. People like him only lived in Hollywood or New York and were in movies. That was what I thought at the time. I’d grown since then, learned a few lessons along the way, and now it was time to collect what was due to me.
