The last one is from this morning, and I breathe a sigh of relief while keying in my response.
MICHAELA: Sorry. Been super sick. Like out of it for two days.
My phone immediately pings with a response.
MIA: I was about to call in the SWAT team, Kayla.
MIA: Don’t scare me like that!
MIA: Are you feeling better?
MICHAELA: Sorry.
MICHAELA: Lost the whole weekend.
MIA: Even Friday? Weren’t you supposed to go out?
MICHAELA: I went out on Friday. Got sick Saturday morning.
MIA: No fun.
MIA: Did you convince West you’re not his sister? *laughing emoji*
MICHAELA: Ha.
MIA: Ha? Is that a yes?
MICHAELA: That’s a long story.
MICHAELA: Is it still okay for me to stay with you after the shoot?
MIA: That bad, huh?
MIA: Of course!
MIA: You can head to my place now if you want. Or I can text you when I’m on my way home?
MICHAELA: I’ll be fine here until you get home.
MICHAELA: Wouldn’t want the press to think I’m breaking up your marriage too.
MIA: Kayla. *sad emoji*
MIA: Who cares what they think?
I do. Despite everything. I still care about the name they called me. Home-wrecker. Even though Jax and Charlie weren’t together. It bothers me how much they talked about my video—one I didn’t consensually make—with Tucker.
MICHAELA: I’m not going to give them anything more to talk about.
MIA: So what are you going to do until I get home?
MICHAELA: I can stay with Sawyer.
MIA: You’re sure?
MICHAELA: Yep. I’ll go be the bratty baby sister to him for a few weeks. *wink emoji*
MICHAELA: Then I’ll come hang out with you.
