EPILOGUE

RYAN

One year later

“Do you see it?” I asked Tony.

We were both standing in front of the cooler at the only grocery store on this part of the island. My eyes were scanning every carton and container.

“I don’t,” he said. “Let’s just get her a different cheese.”

“She wants brie,” I said. “I’m getting her brie.”

“Unless you can start producing milk and know how to make this shit, you aren’t getting it.”

“I have to find it,” I said. “She gave me a very specific list. If I don’t produce this list of goods, she’s going to be sad. Possibly pissed. The wedding planning has made her very moody lately. I’m not trying to piss off my bride the night before our wedding.”

“How long would it take you to fly to the mainland and get some?” Tony asked.

I rolled my eyes. “Too long. She wants this in a couple of hours.”

Tony sighed and threw up his hands. “If she wanted brie, she should have planned ahead.”

“Are you going to tell her that?” I asked. “Would you tell Norah that?”

He laughed. “Not if I wanted to keep my balls.”

“Exactly.”

I walked up to the counter. “Excuse me. I’m looking for brie. Is there another store that might have it?”

“What’s that?”

“Cheese,” I answered. “A very specific and apparently rare cheese.”

“Did you try the wine and cheese store on Fifth?”

I blinked. “There’s a wine and cheese store?”

“Yeah, couple streets over.”

I looked at Tony with various thoughts of inflicting pain on him. “There’s a wine and cheese store, Tony.”

“Oops,” he said with a shrug.

“We bought wine at the damn gas station! You were supposed to be in charge of this!”

He shook his head. “No, no. You asked me to find the nearest grocery store.”

“To get wine and cheese!”

“I’m not the damn mayor, Ryan,” he said with a laugh. “I don’t know every business in town.”

“Is that what mayors do?” I asked.

“Who the hell knows? Let’s go cheese shopping.”

We headed out of the store. This wedding business was going to make me crazy. We were in the home stretch. I couldn’t lose my shit. I got into the rental car and slammed the door shut. I pulled out my phone and looked up the store.
