He finished his second drink and leaned back and sighed. “Damn, I feel so much better.”

“Are you cold?” I asked him.

“Are you going to cuddle with me?” His cocky little grin was impossible to deny.

“I will do whatever you need me to do.”

He got up and extended his hand. I took it. He pulled me against him. The warmth of his body enveloped me. “I was so scared,” I whispered. The fear I’d been feeling had faded. Now, I felt empty. I had been holding on to that fear. The relief left me feeling limp.

“I’m okay,” he soothed. “I’m here.”

I didn’t mean for it to happen, but tears started to slide down my cheeks. I didn’t want him to see me crying. I kept my face buried in his chest while he rubbed my back. “It’s okay,” he murmured. “We’re both okay. I’ve got you.”
