“Looks like it might be slowing down.”
“Really?” I asked and looked out the window.
“Yes, really.”
The rain had slowed to a normal drizzle. The wind seemed much tamer. This was a standard storm. We could do it. “Let’s go,” I said.
He grinned and pulled the keys from the ignition. “I hope you’re up for this,” he said. “You’re going to get wet.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’ve been wet for the last few hours.”
“I bet you’d walk five miles if it got you to your lady,” he teased.
“Yes, yes, I would.”
The river running across the road was still pretty violent. I hesitated. Eddie stepped into it. “It’s not too bad,” he said. “Just watch your footing.”
I watched him walk through it and followed behind him. The water hit a few inches below my knee. We made it across and set off down the road. I barely felt the rain. I was so soaked, it didn’t matter.
