“It wasn’t you. That was all me.”
I didn’t think that was true. “It’s cool. I got carried away.”
“We both did,” he said. “We’ve had a lot to drink. We can’t do this. Not like this. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“You will?” I asked.
“I was thinking we could go snorkeling or something,” he said with a shrug. “If you don’t have anything to do. If you have plans, that’s cool. I don’t want to intrude on anything.”
“It’s not an intrusion,” I said. “I don’t have any plans.”
“Then I will definitely find you tomorrow,” he said with a smile.
I thought he was going to kiss me again. He didn’t. He offered a weird, awkward wave and walked out of my room. I couldn’t bring myself to move. I sat staring at the closed door and tried to figure out what just happened. My body was still humming with electricity. If I had known he could kiss like that, I might have tried to steal him away from Norah. Although I had a feeling he was kissing a little differently these days. His kisses were that of a man, not a boy.
I pulled away from the wall and flopped onto the bed. What in the world was I doing? I couldn’t start making out with the guy. He was supposed to be a fake date. None of this was real. This stopped the moment the reunion was over. Getting tangled up with a guy like Ryan was not a good idea. The money he would pay me when this was all over would give me the financial freedom I craved.
“Eyes on the prize, Claire.”
