“Claire Sullivan!”
More screams. I looked in the crowd and saw her trying to escape. Norah wasn’t having it. She practically dragged Claire onto the stage herself.
“Hi,” I said. “My queen.”
I watched as she was given a sash to wear along with a pretty crown. Her cheeks were bright red. I quickly went to her and pulled her under my arm in a protective stance. Everyone was still clapping and cheering while we stood on stage in the ridiculous garb.
“This is humiliating,” Claire said behind a smile.
“Grin and bear it,” I replied.
We were given the dance floor to have our royal dance. The crown kept slipping off my head. “You look good in a crown,” I teased.
“I feel so ridiculous,” she groaned.
“But you look good doing it,” I replied. “I love you.”
“I love you.”
“Who would have thought it would be us crowned royalty?” I said with a shake of my head that nearly sent my crown careening to the floor.
“Not me,” she replied. “Definitely not me.”
“You are my queen,” I told her. “I will treat you as such for the rest of my days.”
She smiled up at me. Her eyes were sparkling with unshed tears. This was what happiness was.
