“Glad to hear that,” Carter said. “Does that mean you’re going back out into the field when things warm up enough on a regular basis?”

“Damn right,” I said.

“Maybe,” Rebecca said, interjecting herself. Carter and I laughed. “What? I like this whole deal where you work eight hours in a safe office and then clock out and come home to me.”

“He might have a few more months of that,” Carter said. “Then he gets paternal leave.”

“I do?” I asked.

“Yeah. Unless you want to bring Rebecca and the baby up to the office daily and have yours and Carson play in the pen together.”

“That sounds like a great idea,” Lauren said.

“I don’t mind that at all,” Rebecca said. “As long as I can be at the shop a couple days a week.”

“I think we can figure that out,” I said, kissing the top of her head. “I figure we can figure out anything that comes next. As long as we have each other.”

“Always,” she said.

“Forever.”
