Graceley.

I felt like I was betraying her, even as I howled inside against the injustice, even as I tried with every ounce of strength I had to pull away.

You wouldn’t think I could feel that way about a woman with three other husbands and four kids, a woman I barely knew and wanted nothing to do with, but …

Violet reached down and cupped my junk through my robes, and I felt this sharp arc of fear stab through me. In this state, the wedding night … really would be a full wedding night.

I was going to be raped by a demon and there was nothing I could fucking do about it.

“Still not hard for me,” Violet asked as she pulled back and put her lips near my ear. “That’s okay; we can fix that, too.”

She stepped away, sniffling and putting the sad girl act back on for her mother.

Violet’s mother, Agma, was one scary demon bitch. I gritted my teeth, nostrils flaring as she turned toward me, studying me with eyes the same silver color as her daughter’s. Her hair was a brilliant spun gold, and her mouth was as red as blood. Her skin seemed to glow a sickly yellow color as she sauntered toward me in a dress made of strips of leathery skin. It was a bodycon dress, but like, a totally goth and morbid as fuck version.

I would’ve liked it on someone else. On Graceley.

“Hex Sorciere,” she said, her voice this mellifluous purr of sulfur and brimstone. She even smelled like it, like sulfur. The scent burned the roof of my mouth, seared my nostrils, and made me cough. “I apologize for the delay in your ceremony; we’re attempting to fix the damage done by the unruly Seelie prince.”

Argent.

Of course it was one of Grace’s husbands that’d done this. The last I’d seen of them, they were trapped in my grandmother’s spell circle with that demon freak circling them like he was the hunter and they were the prey.

What the hex was Violet doing there?

“Where the fuck is Grace?” I asked, but Lulu was right there, snapping her fingers and shushing me.

“Hopefully dead,” Violet snapped, rubbing her hand over her face as her mother paused near a small table and opened up a box made of bone. It was a box meant to keep witches out.

This isn’t good, Hex, Connard whispered into my mind, but I couldn’t respond to him. Grandma Lulu telling me to shut the fuck up had effectively taken away any form of communication I had.

Thing was, as much as Vy’s words struck fear into my heart, I knew Grace wasn’t dead. She was my soulmate, whether I liked it or not, and if she had died, I would know.

She was still alive, but she wasn’t here, on earth. No, she was most definitely still in Hael.

“Not yet,” Agma said, swishing a tail covered in golden scales, her bone-white horns catching the lights of the chandeliers overhead. She touched her fingers to a black jewel embedded in the rich red velvet of the box, and then moved her attention over to a bottle with a ruby stopper in the shape of a rose.

A red rose.

Just like the red roses in all the E.D. Spells. My heart began to pound, and I saw the rest of the night flash before my eyes: chained to a bed underneath Violet.

No, worse: on top of Violet thrusting and fucking against my own will, doing things to her that I only wanted to do to … well, not her.

That’s how much of a douche I really was: I still wasn’t ready to fully admit that the witch woman more than just intrigued me. That she made my body feel like it was on fire the same way she made my temper flame, the same way she made my heart burn for her.

I turned to look at Lulu, but she just stared at me with a mixture of sympathy and frustration, waving her hand dismissively. “Pay attention to your fiancée for the rest of the night, and don’t say anything to embarrass your coven.”

A growl escaped my throat as I turned to look at the blind demon girl and her mother.

“Do you think the spell cure will be ready after the ceremony?” Violet was asking as her mother passed over the vial with the red rose topper, placing it in her daughter’s hand and curling her fingers around it. “Because I’d like to see my husband in his formal wear.”

“Yes, my love,” Agma said, glancing over at me. “We’ll find a cure for your curse; don’t you worry your pretty little head over it.” Agma reached over and cupped the side of her daughter’s face. “Go get your dress on, and we’ll get you married.”

Violet nodded and glanced in Lulu’s general direction.
