Lulu didn’t acknowledge the threat apparent in my words or maybe she simply didn’t believe me? Category nine demons were rare; I’d only ever seen—and fucked—one of them.
“Congratulations,” is what Lulu chose to say next. As if her decision to say it now was any less of a threat than the one I’d just made. “The goddess has blessed you once again.”
I fucking stared at her.
“It must really tick you off that I’m carrying the Witch Queen,” I said, just to gauge her reaction. I’d run this by Monster and the boys earlier; none of them had seen any issue with letting her know that we knew. Violet already did anyway, so it didn’t change much.
Still, Lulu revealed nothing. Instead, she smiled again and sipped her tea.
“I’ll admit, I was displeased at first,” she continued with a sigh, “but I’m getting used to the idea. This change in events does not, however, strip Hex of his duties to his coven or to the cabal. He was promised to Violet Enfer, and the wedding will carry on as planned. Your mother made a deal with us while you slept. Are you willing to challenge that?”
“I’m willing to challenge it, crush it, destroy it, chuck it right out the window. We have a complete soul-circle now, Lulu.” I leaned back in my seat, hands still threaded together over my bare knee. “And I never made that bargain; my mother is incapable of carrying it out herself, so … stalemate?”
Lulu’s nostrils flared and her hands tightened around the teacup, cracking the pretty white and gold porcelain. I gritted my teeth; that was an antique set passed down through generations of Spells women. It had little designs on the bottom of each cup that were holiday themed—partridges, nutcrackers, yule logs, those sorts of things.
I’d spell it back together later.
“You have the blood of a category nine demon, do you?” Lulu continued, as if she didn’t already know. Monster had betrayed himself in Hael when he’d abandoned Violet, grabbed me, and taken off.
They’d know he was no longer on their side.
Why he’d chosen to do that, I wasn’t sure. His motivations had never been clear to me. When we’d first gotten together, I thought I had him all figured out. The tortured demon princeling who was wanting for love … gag me with a broomstick.
“She does,” Monster replied, slipping into the room. I saw right away how Lulu reacted to him, swallowing hard, squeezing my poor teacup even harder in her hands. She was afraid of him. More than that, his pheromones were affecting her the way they affected me. If he touched her with a single dose of that glittering silver musk, she’d be on her knees begging for his dick.
That … sort of annoyed me. Irrationally so.
“Gron Priaposia,” Lulu greeted, setting the teacup aside and then getting to one knee in front of Monster. She bowed her head to him, and my witch side went nuts. How … how could a High Priestess bow to a demon?! As witches, our loyalty was to our coven and nobody else. Monster, regardless of the fact that he was the demon king’s oldest son (only son, I’d thought, until recently) deserved nothing from Lulu. And yet … “Your father is quite concerned with your sudden disappearance.”
“His concerns mean nothing to me,” he said, lifting the edge of his lip in a snarl. He moved over to Lulu and stroked a single finger down one of her cheeks, leaving her with a glittering silver trail that had her gagging and curling over, clutching at her chest as she struggled with a rush of need and want. “And your insistence on corralling my little brother bothers me. Why on earth would you need Hex when I’m standing before you?”
“Please, Grand Prince,” Lulu choked out, curling over and clutching at her throat. Not sure why she was doing that when all Monster made me want to do was clutch at my—well, my cunt. Not even going to try and sugarcoat that one. “He’s been promised to—”
“He’s been promised to the Ungeists,” Monster finished with another growl, dropping down to one knee and grabbing the woman by the cheeks. She moaned and leaned into his touch. I found myself rising from the couch in an attempt to … what? Did I care if Monster rolled Lulu Sorciere? Did it matter if he was touching her or anyone else?
I squeezed my hands into fists and made myself stay still.
“Why?”
“My lord …” Lulu breathed, her eyes glittering, her lips parted, but she was doing an admirable job of resisting Monster’s magic. I’d once seen him command an assassin to kill herself—and she’d done it, too. Right there in front of us both. I scrubbed at my forehead to push back the memory.
“Why.” This time, it wasn’t a request. It was a command, one that I wanted to obey, even after a whole mug of slug slime coffee. I’d need at least three or four more doses spaced out over the next week to be able to resist completely. Even then, only from a distance or from brief casual contact. If he were to grab me and pull me against his naked body, I’d—
