Silas smiled innocently. “I didn’t. I just like kissing you when you’re sleeping so peacefully.”
“Liar!” she shot back.
He burst into laughter, clearly delighted by her reaction. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he drew her closer until her body rested against his.
“Tell me, where do you want to go for our honeymoon?” he asked. “Do you have a particular country in mind? We can go wherever you want.”
Allison finally took a proper look at him. He was already dressed in a suit, having showered and gotten ready for the office. Somehow, he looked even better than he had the previous night.
And the closer he held her, the harder it became for her to ignore his intoxicating scent.
He smells so good.
Allison swallowed her thoughts and focused on his question.
“I want to settle my business and take care of all the problems in Manhattan first. After that, we can go. Right now, I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to leave when I have so much to do.”
Silas studied her face for a moment before gently brushing a few curls away from it and tucking them behind her ear.
“I’m a little disappointed, but that’s fine.” His thumb grazed her cheek as he smiled at her. “As long as it makes you happy.”
His response touched Allison’s heart. She looked at him with a soft smile, feeling a quiet warmth spread through her chest. After letting out a small sigh of relief, she lifted her eyes to his again.
“What did you say to Shane to convince him to let us get married?”
Silas frowned slightly, as though he had to think about it. “Just the usual things. I told him I’d be loyal to you and love you. Your brother loves you, so he agreed pretty easily. It didn’t take much convincing.”
He leaned down and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.
When he pulled away, Allison narrowed her eyes at him, her frown deepening.
“You’re such a liar.”
Silas narrowed his eyes, a teasing smirk tugging at his mouth. “So you’ve got enough energy to argue with me? Good. Then you’ve got enough for a lot more.” He leaned closer, his smile turning dangerous. “How about I remind you of every position we tried last night? Then you can tell me again how bad I am.”
Before Allison could respond, he lowered his head to her neck and began scattering kisses across her skin.
A giggle escaped her as she pushed against his chest. “Silas!”
He didn’t move away. Instead, his lips brushed her ear before trailing back along her neck, making her squirm beneath him.
“Stop it!” she protested, laughing as she tried to push him away again.
But when he still refused to listen, she finally managed to slip out of bed, dragging the bedsheet with her to cover herself.
Silas watched her with a frown as she hurried away from him.
“I have to go to work,” she announced, looking down at him as she clutched the sheet around herself.
Without waiting for his reply, she rushed toward the other door, which lead to the bathroom, and disappeared inside.
Silas let out a long, disappointed sigh before falling back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling.
Chapter 10 Summer
Silas dropped Allison off outside Sundown. The moment she stepped out of the car, he was already there waiting for her. He slipped an arm around her waist and drew her close, holding her against his body as he gazed down at her with unmistakable affection.
“I’m going to be away for two days,” he told her, gently brushing his thumb over her waist. “If you need anything, you can ask Frank. He’ll take care of it for you.”
