“No. We discussed Chicago. You said it happened once because you were drunk and angry.”
“I was.”
“You promised it was the only time.”
“I didn’t promise.”
Briggs drags both hands over his face. “Yes, you fucking did!”
“Lower your voice.”
His hands drop. “How many?”
“Briggs.”
“How many?”
The question tears out of him loudly enough that several guests near the castle turn toward us. Easton moves between the confrontation and the larger crowd, blocking their view without interfering.
Lyric glances around. “You’re embarrassing me.”
“You lied to me!”
“I knew you would react like this.”
“You knew I would react badly to being cheated on?”
“You become impossible whenever you think someone might leave you.”
“How many fucking times, Lyric?”
She looks away.
Briggs’s face changes because he already understands the answer is more than one. “Was Chicago the first?”
Her silence confirms it.
His chest rises sharply. “The agent in Toronto?”
“We kissed.”
“You said he tried to kiss you and you stopped him.”
“I did stop him.”
“After?”
Lyric rolls her eyes. “It was a kiss.”
A broken laugh escapes him. “What about the guy in Vancouver?”
“Nothing happened with him.”
“You disappeared from the hotel bar with him.”
“I went outside.”
“For two hours?”
