Ryan looked toward the high hedges beyond the fountain.
“The maze,” we said together.
He removed the flask and opened it. I held out my hand. “You’re becoming demanding.”
“You kissed me in front of an estate employee.”
“I was completing the challenge.”
“With tongue?”
“I respect rules.”
“You complained about every rule.”
“I take photography seriously.”
Ryan drank before passing the flask to me. I took a longer swallow, and the warmth spread through my chest, mixing with the bright rush his kiss had left behind.
“If you keep doing that, we’re going to lose,” I said.
“Doing what?”
“Kissing me like you intend to abandon the scavenger hunt.”
“I can kiss and walk.”
“Last night suggested you prefer doors.”
His gaze sharpened with the memory. “Last night suggested several things.”
“That your closure plan requires extensive physical research?”
“That you talk too much after mezcal.”
I stepped closer as another pair ran past us toward the maze. “My campaign is making progress.”
“You’re mistaking my dick for a voting member.”
“He seemed extremely supportive last night.”
Ryan caught my waist and pulled me against him. “Keep discussing him like he isn’t here.”
“What will happen?”
“You’ll spend the rest of this scavenger hunt finding out how many places inside this maze I can make you come.”
Heat rushed through me. “That sounds like progress.”
“That sounds like fucking.” His mouth brushed mine once before he released me. “Learn the difference, mami.”
“I know the difference.”
“Good.”
He started toward the maze. I followed, watching the confidence in his stride and wondering how long he could keep calling every instinctive reach toward me physical.
The entrance divided into three paths between towering hedges. Ryan selected the center without consulting me.
