As I put his plate into the bus container, Colton said, “I like Killian’s idea better.”
I huffed out a laugh. “Knock some sense into him?”
“Something like that.”
Almost twenty minutes before closing, Killian bumped his shoulder into mine as he opened the bin to scoop ice into a to-go cup. “Church in the morning. Thought you’d want to know.”
“Thanks,” I said.
He leaned on the bar. “Not sure you’re gonna feel that way come tomorrow. The Biloxi brothers are expected to be there, too.”
I twisted my lips to the side. “Is that normal?”
He shrugged one shoulder. “Sometimes, but after having breakfast with you, I know this session is going to be tense. I’m surprised Dad didn’t stick around to spend time with you.”
I shrugged. “I’ll catch him before he leaves, I’m sure.”
Killian scoffed. “You might not like what you catch.”
“You weren’t too pissed - I mean, you got over it quick.”
He gave me a dry look. “It wasn’t that fast. But I’m not the man who changed your diapers either.”
“Yuck. Why did you have to go there?”
He laughed while he squirted soda into the cup. “Because you’re his little girl and you always will be.”
I stared across the floor to his last table. “Yeah. Are those people done? Tell Adam to lock the doors.”
“Already did,” he said, and took the drink to his table.
My phone vibrated and I saw I had a text message from Tundra.
Have to be @ my place tonight.
That didn’t give me the warm and fuzzies.
Do you want me there? Or do you want alone time to focus and get into your zone like Karate Kid or something?
I added a GIF of someone meditating with their hands held up and text that read ‘in the zone.’
His response came faster than I expected.
No, wild child. I need you here tonight.
Lark came to the bar. “I mentioned this to Ricochet a couple hours ago, but forgot to tell you. You’re opening tomorrow.”
“I traded with Adam. I’ll be in before the lunch rush, though,” I said.
Or at least I hoped so.
Once the Biloxi brothers showed, I figured the brothers would have church in the morning. Hell if I wasn’t going to be there (in the common room), and I’d swapped shifts without getting Lark’s approval.
Lark’s lips set in a thin line. “Don’t do that shit again. Adam’s not the one working for an ownership stake, you are. Me, Nickel, and Ricochet got church - I need you to be here.”
Lashing out right now would feel damn good, but I held my tongue. We needed Lark on our side.
“Tomorrow there’s a reason I wanted to be—”
