He pushed up and rolled us so I was on bottom again. “What I’m getting at is that there was no way I was going to settle down with a woman who only saw me as her ticket to a fancy house.”
“Right. It’s your mother’s house, and I see you for much more than that.”
One of his eyebrows rose. “You remember telling me the sub sandwiches had to set me back by two hundred bucks?”
I nodded.
“I said I was good for it because I got much more than that in my bank account. Dad set me and Brandy up with trust funds. We’ve both come into those, but after his death, we got more. I don’t need to work, Mick. But I like being at Platinum’s…something else Sarah never understood - though she never knew I had money.”
“Yeah…do any of the brothers know about your situation?” I asked.
His eyes narrowed a touch. “No, why?”
I leaned up to give him a peck. “I wondered because even if my parents are cool with our age difference, I figured your job at Platinum’s would make one or both of them crazy…even if I don’t care where you work.”
He did a slow nod. “Yeah, I can see that. Between me, Yak, and Turk, we don’t work there to gawk at the dancers. We’re there to make sure the club’s business stays legit. And I hate the idea of any woman being harassed or assaulted because she’s pulling into work at our club. Lots of people would say, if I’m so concerned about the dancers’ safety then shut down Platinum’s but dancers are gonna find another place to work. Over the years, the women who need to dance for a living have come to see that we provide something the other places in town don’t: extremely tight security.”
I loved that about him.
And yeah.
I loved him.
“Why are you staring at me like that, Mickayla?”
Wasn’t this shitty timing?
He widened his eyes.
“Because I love you…and that isn’t because you just told me you’re wealthy, okay. I know the timing is bad, but—”
To my surprise, he planted his lips on mine. This kiss reminded me of our first kiss. Hot, heady, heavy, and fast.
He broke it, heat shining from his eyes. “About fuckin’ time you said it.”
I laughed. “What?”
“You asked to be my old lady, but didn’t say it.”
“Neither did you…hell, you didn’t say you’d be down with me being your old lady.”
“I said I love you with my actions, baby.”
I couldn’t argue that. “Right.”
He glided a finger along my jawline. “Mickayla, look at me.”
I met his gaze.
“I love you, too.”
Those words in his rich, husky voice seared straight into my soul. I’d never be able to get enough.
