“Not sure, but stay here.”
I’d just hit the foyer when someone knocked and rang the door bell.
“Just a minute,” I said while I pulled on my t-shirt.
I should have checked the peephole first, but I pulled the door open and glared. “What the fuck, Lark?”
He dragged a hand down his jawline. “Gonna let that shit slide, but you probably want to be more neighborly when you answer the door.”
I took a deep breath. “What do you need, brother?”
“Needed to know if you still want to use that trailer or not. It’s my buddy’s and he’s plannin’ to leave town, but not knowing about the trailer sitch is holding him up.”
“You could have texted about that,” I muttered while I did some mental calculations.
Spending time with Mick here would be closer than us hitting Mom’s house over the next couple weeks. Still, Lark’s impromptu visit made it clear this place might not be any better than Mick’s doublewide.
Lark arched his brows. “You’ve been scarce around the clubhouse lately, and I need the answer sooner rather than later. My guess is that you’ve also been too busy with the woman you got inside.”
“You’re making assumptions—”
He held up a finger. “Tell Mickayla her brothers are concerned. Whether or not they should be is a different issue. But concerned brothers become worried brothers, and that’s when shit starts goin’ sideways.”
“What’s Mickayla got to do with this?” I asked.
Lark gave me a don’t bullshit me look. “Her car’s parked right out here, man. And y’all’s mistletoe shit was on the camera footage. The security firm sent it to me. You got lucky with that one because if anyone else would have seen it…”
“Message received, Lark.”
He turned his head and thought about something, then looked at me. “Mick’s got an extra day off. Things have been a little slow. It tracks with people doin’ dry January and tryin’ to lose weight. But she’s gotta come back on the fourth. If I make her days line up with yours, people will get suspicious.”
I nodded once. “Thanks, Lark.”
“You’re welcome.”
I closed and locked the door. On the one hand that felt too easy, but on the other hand, Lark had a reputation for preferring women in their twenties. He wasn’t in a position to lob stones. If the other brothers were that open-minded, I’d be hanging out at the clubhouse with Mickayla regardless of which brothers were there.
I trudged up the stairs to the bedroom. Mickayla was sitting on the bed with her back to the headboard, and the sheets pulled up over her tits.
I loved seeing her in my bed.
“Who was at the door?” she asked.
I pulled my shirt off. “Lark.”
Her mouth dropped open. “What?”
“He came by to find out if I needed his buddy’s trailer for moving, but he saw your car.”
“Oh, shit.”
I dropped my jeans and climbed into bed. “He’s cool. Said you got another day off, but you have to report in on the fourth because your days lining up with my time off could make people suspicious.”
She stretched out alongside me. “That’s it?”
“My guess is that we don’t have much time to waste if we’re gonna be out in the open. Your brothers are concerned. Won’t be long before they’re outright worried, and that’s when shit will hit the fan.”
She kissed my pec. “I’m surprised he put it together so fast.”
