I had to quit comparing the two of them. Hell, Brandy doing it last night in front of Mickayla had nearly set me off.

Mickayla turned to me. “Is there bacon in the fridge? I didn’t see it, but I only checked for something to drink earlier.”

Sleep had been hard to come by last night, because I didn’t like the idea that Brandy’s husband had sent her and the kids here instead of being at their house. It wasn’t my business, but it wasn’t like Seth to do something like that either. He should have been here to make pancakes for his kids - or see what Matthew wanted to eat with such a sour stomach. The health insurance excuse was lame. Brandy had money, and if he lost his job, they could tap into her trust. Though, as a man, I understood relying on my wife’s trust fund would be a hit to my manhood, but sending my family away to keep from getting sick… no.

I crossed to the fridge and grabbed one of the Celsius drinks I’d picked up.

Mickayla’s eyes twinkled as she smirked at me.

“What’s with the look?” I asked.

“You bought my favorite energy drink.”

“I did, but that was before I knew you’d be coming here with me.”

She tip-toed up to me, resting her wrist on my shoulder. “So, you missed me after all?”

“Maybe,” I muttered.

“Aww,” she whispered while aiming her lips toward my cheek.

A cheek kiss was a kiss misplaced, so I turned my head and caught her lips with mine. Her mouth opened and I took full advantage. This woman could freaking kiss and I loved it.

“Okay, now I might actually vomit,” Brandy said.

Mickayla made to break the kiss, but I leaned forward and kept at her just a bit longer.

After I ended the kiss, I pulled back and shot my sister a cocky look. “Consider that payback for the many times I caught you making out with Mark Anderson back in high school.”

Mickayla pulled against my hold. I held tighter.

“Great. Now I’m in the middle of some sibling rivalry,” she said.

I shrugged a shoulder. “Pretty sure this is the least of the sibling bullshit you have to handle if we keep going.”

Brandy grabbed her half-full glass of iced coffee. “If you two keep going? What’s this ‘if’ business? I may have only just met her, but the way you two are, I can’t imagine there’s much that could tear you apart.”

Mickayla took a deep breath and I let her go.

“There’s more to us than meets the eye, Dee,” I said.

Mickayla looked at Brandy. “What did princess Marjorie declare? Are we having sausage, bacon, or ham?”

“She’s still sleeping. Matthew isn’t interested in food, but I decided we should go with ham. If you put that smaller pancake on a plate, I’ll take it up to Matty in case he can handle a few bites.”

Mickayla wandered into the master bedroom of my apartment carrying new king-sized sheets fresh from the dryer.

“This is bigger than your average apartment,” she said.

I took the warm sheets from her. “It’s just a townhouse, Mick. Go to that side, we’ll get this done faster.”

She shoved a pillow into a pillowcase and threw it on the bed. “Do you have a comforter or duvet?”

“That’s back in my room at the clubhouse. It’s too big for my saddlebags.”

Her eyes were on the bed, but she couldn’t hide her dejected expression.

“Hey,” I called.
