“Three, two, one…Happy New Year!”

Noisemakers and party horns filled the air. I only had eyes and ears for Tundra, though.

“Happy new year,” he murmured before he kissed me.

A kiss that served as a shock to my system since I didn’t think I’d ever have this again.

I drove my fingers into his hair and kissed him with all my might. He groaned, leaned forward, and gave it right back to me.

Holy smokes. I’d missed this even more than I realized.

I broke the kiss but kept hold of him. “Happy new year.”

Then I blurted, “Come to my place.”

He shook his head. “Mickayla, I shouldn’t have ki—”

I cupped his bearded cheek. “Don’t you dare ruin that kiss.”

His eyes flared. “I’d never do that.”

“Then come to my place. I’ll be done at three.”

“Fuck. Are you sure? The bar closes at two.”

I widened my eyes. “And it’s gonna be a mess.”

He nodded. “Start a pot of coffee. I’m gonna need it.”

My lips tipped up. “So, you’re coming to my place?”

Trepidation stole over his face. “It’s too easy for Nickel or Lark to see my bike there.”

“As if. They’re going straight home after this long ass night.”

“Fine, but I got somewhere else we need to go in the morning.”

“Text me the address.”

“No, babe. You gotta go in with me. This place has security.”

Something about this set off my internal bullshit-o-meter, but the solemn tone of his voice told me he was serious.

I smiled at him. “Kiss me. One more time.”

“It’s gonna be short. You got work to do.”

With a huge smile, I pulled his bearded lips to mine and got another kiss that lit up my soul.

What are you doing? A little voice demanded.

I ignored her demands. The way I needed Tundra couldn’t be denied. Even if it meant I’d be in a funk for a long time when it ended.

Fool that I was, during the wee hours of the morning in my bedroom, I asked, “Is this short holiday our last hurrah?”

“Is that what you want?”

I hated that he’d answered a question with a question, but with two brothers, I recognized when men were protecting themselves.
