He raised the taser. “Get in. Now!” he yelled.

Nothing for it, I angled into the passenger seat.

He slammed the door shut and rounded the hood, staring at me the whole time. I had a small mallet in the glove compartment for smashing a window in case of a water crash. The way he watched me from outside the car, I couldn’t get it out right now, but in close quarters and with the element of surprise, there was a chance I could use it against him.

In no time, we were out of the parking lot. I’d expected him to turn right toward US 90, but we headed north - away from the main drag.

Toward nothing but woods and forest.

Gamble followed me into the clubhouse. At the end of the hallway, Volt charged out of his room toward us. “Where the fuck is Lark?”

“He left five minutes ago,” Ricochet said.

“Did Nickel go with him?” Volt demanded, his voice rising.

“I’m right here,” Nickel said, coming down the stairs.

Volt rarely got this tweaked.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Alarm’s goin’ off at On a Lark. The video feed shows Adam on the floor. There’s a five minute delay, but it looks like one of the new employees is out cold, too. If I’m seeing it correctly, someone took Mickayla.”

“Took her?” Gamble bit out.

“Yeah.” Volt looked at Ricochet and held out his phone. I caught a brief glimpse of a still shot. The man who’d sat next to me at the bar a few days ago filled the frame. “Do you or Nickel know who this asshole is?”

“That’s Duane,” Ricochet said.

Volt cocked a brow. “Any chance you know where he lives?”

“Not specifically. He said he lives in Whitehouse, but he never said if it was an apartment, trailer, or house,” Nickel said.

I struggled to hold on to my temper. “Is there footage of him getting into a vehicle with her?”

I couldn’t bring myself to call it a cage.

Volt shook his head. “I haven’t checked. I stopped the moment I saw him aiming a weapon at her. I’ll check the parking lot footage.”

Gamble stepped closer to me. “Let’s go. I’ll drive your truck.”

I blew out a breath. “It’s not here. My eye isn’t swelling too bad, yet. I’m headed out on my bike. Try to keep up.”

Gamble sidled around me. “Motherfucker, you’ll get killed riding like that.”

“No. Duane’s the one who’s getting killed,” I said.

“Let’s go. I drove an SUV this morning - you’re both so angry neither one of you should be riding,” Ricochet said.

“There’s no way I’m not on my bike to go get her.”

Ricochet stared at me hard. “Yeah, I hear you.”
