“Dario is a raging misogynist, and in combination with his psychopathy, he would never expect us to be working on a foundation of love and mutual respect.”
The wheels are turning in their heads as they’re thinking about what I just said. We’re all conditioned to have these elaborate schemes on how to carry out hits. Sometimes we must put that aside and think about who’s in front of us. Assassinating someone shouldn’t only be physical but psychologically devastating as well.
“I agree with you.” Sara’s a psychologist as well, and I’m so happy she’s on my side. “If we give him a grand, bloody war, we’re going to validate his belief that he’s a god. He thinks that gods deserve an epic fall.”
I follow up on what Sara just explained. “That’s why we need to kill him quietly. No speeches. No dramatic standoffs. He will die realizing he wasn’t a masterpiece, merely a chore we had to clean up. That lack of importance will kill him from the inside out."
“Oh shit. That sounds amazing. We need to apprehend Evan first, though. He’s a snake and someone who followed Dario blindly; he never had to think for himself.” Josh states as Oliver brushes his hair with his hands
The team agrees that should be our course of action, and they all spring into action.
“Oliver, go to the restaurant again and get me Evan. In the past, he always went back to the scene of the crime to see if nothing’s left behind.” Noa wastes no time, and neither does Oliver.
Before he can leave, Hana’s already on her laptop and hacking everything in sight.
“He’s actually there, and it seems that he’s alone.” She looks at Oliver, and he stands up so fast to tap Adam on the shoulder. He wants Josh to rest; otherwise, he would’ve taken him.
“You’re coming with me to stake out.”
“With pleasure.” Adam agrees, and they both leave. Noticing the bloodlust in their eyes, they’ll probably be back in less than two hours.
I’m so happy I got myself entangled with these people because they are kind and ruthless. Noa squeezes my hand, and I look up at him. He’s smiling from ear to ear, and his eyes have that twinkle in them.
“We’ll leave you guys alone.” I hear someone say, but I don’t pay it any attention.
Noa’s the only one who’s important to me right now.
Footsteps follow out of the room, and we’re left alone.
“I missed you so much, little hummingbird,” he says to me, and that does it.
My arms fly around his neck, and I start kissing him everywhere on his face.
“Little hummingbird, let me kiss you back!” he says in between my smooches, and I don’t miss the pink in his cheeks. When I finally stop kissing him, he takes my face in between his hands and kisses me fully on the lips.
He gently presses our lips together, and months of yearning for each other are poured into this kiss. I move my hands to his neck and hold him tightly, silently vowing never to let him go again.
We come up for breath, and I finally understand what my parents have wanted to teach me all those years ago—love isn’t a weakness. It’s strength.
“You won’t be able to walk away from me ever again, little hummingbird. You. Are. Mine.” He sounds so sure in what he says, and he should be.
“So, what if I try to escape?” I haven’t genuinely flirted with him for the longest time, and it’s a nice feeling.
He lifts one eyebrow and grins. “I would find you, and then I’d tie you to my bed.”
“Who says I want that?” I feign disobedience, and he takes the bait. He places me on his lap and whispers in my ear.
“Consider that choice eliminated. You’re capable enough to give yourself what you want, but let me help you with that.”
Could he be any sweeter?
“Thank you. I need to kill Dario to avenge Emin, my dad, and your mama.”
“You will. Let’s wait for Oliver and Adam, and after that we’re going to kill daddy dearest.”
