“Well, if you ever need someone to help hang pictures, you know where to find me.”
“I can’t hang any where I’m staying right now. But hopefully some day.”
“This is you?” I asked when we closed in on a red beater of a car with tape holding the front light together, a plastic bag over a missing backseat window, and bald tires.
“This is me,” she confirmed, shaking her keys.
Why the fuck was she driving a piece of shit like that when her husband was driving a car that cost, easy, a hundred and fifty grand?
Georgie unlocked the door and I reached to pull it open for her.
Inside, I saw a ripped-out stereo, the old wires rammed into the hole, ripped leather seats, and a cheap convenience store coffee in the cupholder.
“Thanks so much for dealing with the papers for me. I really wasn’t sure how I was going to do it.”
“Happy to help. The bar should be open again in a week if you want to see what we’re working on.”
“I might just take you up on that.”
“Hope you do.”
She slipped down into her seat, and I closed the door, waiting until she turned it over and pulled away, giving me a small smile as she went.
I did hope she showed up.
And my sorry ass would probably be at Redemption every night for a week or two to see if she did.
Even if I knew the last thing in the world she probably needed while going through what looked like was going to be a tough divorce was some other man drooling all over her.
But I also knew that my first casual rebound fling had been cathartic in a way.
And, hey, if Georgie needed some catharsis, I would be happy to be of service.
Especially since that asshole of a husband of hers gave major ‘I don’t care if she comes’ vibes. The poor thing probably hadn’t had someone go down on her in years.
I’d be happy to end her drought.
If she ever showed up again, that is.
“Pretty,” Wolf said as I stepped back into the bar a few minutes later.
“Married,” I replied.
“No ring,” he said, shrugging.
“Dickhead in the Beamer,” Reign piled on.
“While she’s driving a car that is duct-taped together,” I said, shaking my head. “What are you grinning at?” I asked Duke.
“I never got to be a part of the… shit, what do the girls call it?” he asked.
“A meet-cute,” Repo replied, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah, I never got to be a part of the meet-cute.”
“It’s not like that.”
That got a chorus of laughter from all the OG members.
