“It’s your turn now,” Enzo said.
“I promise I’ll always be there for you, Ryden, and love you without hesitation. If the world ever tries to take you from me, I will fight like hell to keep you. If there’s more than one life, I choose you in every lifetime. I’ll kill to keep you safe with me, forever. I’m not afraid of a little blood.”
“You’ve already done that!”
“Oh, she certainly has!” Irene chimed in, looking far too pleased with herself.
“Right.” Enzo straightened. “Now, before I make these two legally inseparable, does anyone have any reason why they shouldn’t be married? Speak now or forever hold your peace.” He looked at the yellow urn. “Trish? You look rather sullen, but girl, you have no say in it. You are officially dead!”
“Enzo!” Ryden frowned.
“Fine.” Enzo sighed. “By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife.”
Ryden pulled me close and kissed me.
“We have something special for you,” Enzo and Irene announced in unison with delighted smiles as soon as we pulled away.
“What?”
Irene grinned as Enzo produced a long, elegant box from behind his back.
“An engraved set of couples’ knives,” Enzo announced, looking very proud. “His and hers.”
Irene clasped her hands together. “Matching knives for the happily married murderers!”
I stared at them.
“You got us murder knives?”
“Technically, they’re kitchen knives,” Enzo said.
Ryden opened the box.
There were pink bows tied around the sharp knives.
His knife was engraved with an R, and mine with a Y. It would be a perfect evidence!
“I’m beginning to think we need better friends,” I muttered.
“No, you don’t,” Enzo said. “What you need are alibis. Lucky for you, we offer unlimited alibis, no questions asked.”
“If you say so…” I griped, smiling before turning to look at Ryden. He was staring at me like he had never seen me before.
“What?”
“Wife,” Ryden whispered with a smile. My heart gave a tight tug. God, I loved this man. “Hello, wife.”
“Hello, husband!”
